WWYD in this situation.

My daughter is 10weeks actual,1 week adjusted. She BFs and bottle feeds. Here's te scenario: 530am wakes up to eat, eats from a bottles and takes 3oz of just BM. Then she is up just looking around with no chance of sleep in sight. So were "playing", I'm talking with her and still keeping the room dim and no other distractions in order to help her go back sleep. 7am rolls around and she is showing hunger signs so I warm up another bottle of just BM, takes 2oz more and by 730am she is out. We were given strict guidelines to not let her go past 4 hours between feedings. She has been sleeping since 730am and it's now 1030am.
Question is now would you start the time of the feeding as 530am or restart at 730am?
I hate to wake her up, we are pretty sure she is in a growth spurt as she is sleeping like a rock and eating like a piglet.
It's I start at 530am then she is over her max time, it I start at 730am she has another hour she can sleep.
Help!

  • Sounds like she has another hour if you fed her at 7:30.

  • @missa_g I agree but my H says it's not a "full feed". Were so nervous of doing the wrong thing. Ughhhhh.

If she ate then I would still count it. She has food in her belly and that's what counts. I wouldn't let her sleep past 11:30 for sure though. Really, either way is fine and won't damage her. You're not doing anything "wrong" if you wake her or if you let her sleep.

  • I agree with PP.. Plus it's just one feed, don't stress!
  • I would let her sleep another hour. If she BFs later, she'll make up the difference if she's hungry. If not, you could add a little more to the rest of her bottles. It might make you feel better but even that's probably not necessary! You can't mess up with one feed. Her overall good weight gain is the goal.

  • Agree w pp. Let her sleep another hour.

Also, I found that my boys got increasingly more awake and less likely to sleep through a feed after they hit their due date.

  • I would count from the last feeding, 7 am. But I agree, as long as she's healthy and gaining weight well, I would let her sleep.

  • I know I'm a day late here, but I'd count from 7am. She's only one week adjusted so I would count 2oz as a full feeding. And you need to take the sleep when you can get it!
