Dying Fabric For Slipcover?

I'm wondering if anybody has any experience/advice on dying a glider slipcover? I got the Dorel Rocker, but it definitely needs a slipcover! Can't really go without it. Walmart is really the only retailer that carries the slipcovers and they have been out of the 'beige' one I wanted forever. I'm being impatient, and am tired of waiting for it to come back in stock..and maybe it wont anyway. My closest option is 'butter' which according to reviews, is more of a camel color. I'd like to dye it grey or possibly white. My questions are--for anybody that has experience with white nursery furniture, how has that worked out for you? I'm a bit worried about stains, etc. but do love the way it looks. If I got with grey, does anyone have experience with Rit dye and any tips tricks here? Since the grey will be darker than the camel, should I just dye it as it? Or do the color remover and than dye grey? Would love any thoughts and suggestions here!!

  • Let me know how it goes for u. My mother gave me her old rocking chair. Getting wood painted but the padding is this ugly green want to get it dyed blue or something else.
  • Thanks!! The one I wanted actually ended up coming back in stock so I didnt undertake the dying!
  • I personally would only dye something that is 100% cotton or other natural material. I would dye the item darker than the current color. I have had really good success with the little packages of tulip or dylon dye found at walmart, michaels or joanns. I have not had good luck with rit.

I would also consider sewing a little slip cover with the material of your choice.
