Cloth Diapering

If you use wool dryer balls?

If you use wool dryer balls for you diaper laundry and/or your regular laundry, I have a question for you. How many do you use? I had plastic dryer balls, but after years if use the nubs are starting to fall off. I thought I might make myself some wool dryer balls instead of repeating this process with plastic again. While I'm at it my mom and sister have talked about wanting them too, so I will make them some for Christmas.

Re: If you use wool dryer balls?

  • I have nine that are slightly smaller than a tennis ball I think, but they get lost in laundry sometimes, so my load usually run with 5-9 balls. I want to make more, because I can tell the difference in drying time between five balls and nine,

  • I was thinking around 4 softball sized balls. If I can find a good sale on wool, and a coupon to double up with it, I might try for 6 a piece.

  • The only thing I don't like about larger balls is that they are louder, IMO.

  • So the wool balls make things dry faster? or softer?

  • I think they are supposed to cut down on drying time

  • I used some before baby came... And they didn't cut down on static. But I only had 3-4. I may have to pull them out and try them on diaper laundry!

    Supposedly both

You either over dried your clothes or were drying something synthetic.

  • I use three wool dryer balls from a lady on etsy.  My clothes come out with more static than before??  Maybe I need more balls?  Or I could be drying something synthetic?  Either way, I was thinking about buying more for myself and as Christmas gifts!

  • @SecretAgentKate   Good to know!  Thanks!  I'll have to play with the dryer settings and see what I can do to fix this :)  I love the idea of saving money, but clothes without all the static would also be fantastic!

  • Every load differs. I usually have at least three, up to 18. I made a lot last year. I can tell the difference between only three, and 18. I only dry things on low heat and it only takes 30-40 minutes vs an hour or more.

    Yeah likely... To both.

DH complains about static more than me. He's even noticed static on synthetic materials that haven't been in the dryer. What gives?

  • This reminds me that I have yarn to make balls. I have 3 skeins of yarn I'll make them from (so 3 balls). I may go grab some more yarn so I can make 6 more. Maybe do a few with some satchels in the center for some scent.
