Fever after shots

My LO had his 4 month checkup yesterday at 2 pm and he is still very fussy and running a fever. I have a call into the Dr and waiting for their return call. His temp is showing 100.2 on the forehead and 99.9 in the ear & underarm. (3 different thermometers) I don't think he's acting sick per say but he's not himself. He's not eating well, not playing and super fussy. He doesn't act like his legs hurt anymore so I think it's just the fever. We've been giving him tylenol every 4 hours since we got home. At the 0445 feeding today his temp had dropped and he ate 4 oz, this was at the end of a 4 hr cycle. But now it's back up. Should I be concerned? How should I have him dressed? He's in a light (t-shirt material) sleep gown right now, no socks, and sleeping with a light blanket. This is his first fever. :( TIA!

    Did you check a rectal? That's most accurate and I think your pedi will want that. That's his core temp. Fevers are "a known side effect" for up to 48 hours post shots. Hope he is feeling better soon!

    Thank you!!! The pedi finally called back and said to keep watching him, keep giving tylenol and make sure he stays hydrated. And if he's still not feeling better on Monday, call back.

    I'm overreacting again. :) I think that return NICU visit will always be in the back of my mind. I hope and pray that day never comes.

    Yay, it finally broke after about 36 hours. Poor little guy. It was awful

    My daughter had a fever for 72 hours after 4 month shots :( it was the most miserable thing ever and it seemed the Tylenol wasn't helping even though it was!

    Oh goodness. That's awful. Did it get better with the next shots? I'm really nervous about upcoming shots now. My SIL said he should be able to take Motrin for his 6 month shots and it works better and lasts longer.

    The Tylenol didn't seem to be helping us either. Plus he stopped taking it by the second evening. He would spit it right back out and wouldn't drink it in milk. Ugh!
