H loves it and I did too until I heard him say it again last night. I am not one for super frilly names like Gabriella or Isabella and at first I didn't think Annabel fit that category but now I'm not so sure. We love the Edgar Allen Poe connection.
What are your general thoughts on Annabel?

IMO it's not as frilly as Gabriella or Isabella, but it is on the frilly side of the spectrum. I like it (and this is from someone who generally does not like frilly)
Honestly my biggest draw back is that it seems really popular, at least on the Bump, if that's at all indicative of the real world
Popularity doesn't really bother me so much when it's below top 10. As of now future DD would be in classes of 15 in a very small rural community school in maine and the private high school we work at in the same town has not had an Annabel attend in at least 50 years.
Thanks everyone for the responses!

I like it. It feels more old-fashioned than frilly to me. As a personal preference, I like the Annabelle spelling better. I seriously always pronounce Annabel like "Hannibal" in my head. I know it's legit and I'm just being dumb, but seriously. EVERY time.

Haha I can't stand the look of Annabelle! It looks so frilly to me haha. I do see what you mean by Hannibal though.

Feminine without being frilly and unusual without being too out there.
I obviously am partial to the name. I fell in love with it because I like long feminine names, not too popular, but very known. I obviously like the Annabelle spelling, but your spelling is also one of the acceptable spellings so no issues with that.

You seriously took the words right out of my mouth. (fingers?)
Annabel is my favorite girl's name right now. IN LOVE WITH IT! I do prefer the "frilly" spelling (Annabelle). It is a beautiful name, I've only met two in my life, great choice.
Beautiful classic name! I love it and would use it except my dh isn't a fan he is extremely picky with names and its really annoying either spelling is pretty too
It also has another literary connection in the Percy Jackson series. I think it's spelt the same, but I haven read the books. I just know she's a kick-butt female character a la Hermione or Katniss.
