Yay for DH

My FIL is extremely opinionated, and I seldom agree with his thoughts. DH loves his dad but gets very irritated with him.i have been hoping DH would not call his family until LO is born, it would relieve stress from me as I have no intentions of anyone other than medical staff and DH being in the room while I am in labor and delivery... Well FIL announced yesterday evening that he wants to be told as soon as we go to the hospital because he plans to be there for DH thru the whole thing... DH and I had discussed the hour or so after birth no one interrupting us, but I hadn't really said much about before.. He told him that there will be times he is not allowed in the room, we have skin on skin time and nursing time... FIL said that he will hold the baby right way... His comment irritated me because he said something about we better not be the parents that don't let anyone hold the baby... DH said something about us raising our child our way, we have no intentions of not allowing people to hold the baby, but they have to be in good health and wash thier hands. I love DH!!! He's gonna make a great dad! He has already says that if FIL raises his voice to our kid while we are around he will put him in his place about discipline being our job and if he doesn't like it he an steer clear. Anyway, some if my fears about my FIL are dissipating because DH is becoming more paternal daily! So proud of him!

    I would feel the same exact way! Grandparents can sometimes be overbearing and it's harder when it's your husbands parents and not yours. He should understand you both want time alone with the baby at first and THEN people can go visit. I'm a little worried about everyone going to the hospital to visit.

    I've asked my family (all out of town) not to come while I'm in the hospital because I can't spend time with them and don't need help while I have nurses. I was hoping he'd tell his family to stay away until baby and I are ready for visitors but his family doesn't work that way.

    It's amazing to me to watch DH move into the father role.  It's one of the most beautiful things you'll ever see.
