Just diagnosed with pneumonia - infant at home

My son was just diagnosed with pneumonia and I have a 7 week old. Now I'm all freaked out about her getting it. She absolutely has been exposed because he kisses her and hugs her all the time....I can't even count the times he has sneezed or coughed on her. Agh...anyone else have this happen? I'm hopping we get lucky and she doesn't get it.

  • As longer he is having the proper antibiotic for the infection, there is not to much risk of passing the infection, just make sure to wash their hand all the time, and don't let him kiss her to much. Good luck.

  • we just had a scare where we thought my 1 yo DS had pneumonia.  turned out to just be a wicked virus.  the doctor told us that pneumonia itself isn't contagious, kind of like an ear infection isn't contagious, but the illness that leads to the pneumonia/ear infection/whatever else is.  so, your DD may get the head cold that led to your son's pneumonia, but she may not develop the same complications he did.  she may get an ear infection or a sinus infection instead.  i'd just start taking lots of preventative measures just in case- prop up her crib or let her sleep in a rock n play, run a humidifier, suck her nose out really well, etc.  hope he feels better soon and she avoids it!

This exactly.  I had bronchitis over the summer.  The doctor said if it wasn't treated it would turn into walking pneumonia.  No one else in the house got it...  These things can even be caused by allergies.
