Breach baby, SCS anyone?

So it's official, my c section is scheduled for November 4th.. I'm soooo nervous.. I'll be 39 weeks 3 days. Anyone else scheduled their c sections due to having a breach baby?

Re: Breach baby, SCS anyone?

  • I am still waiting for my date, but my baby b has been consistently breech or transverse, so it's a c section for me, too. My dr says they'll keep checking me, and if she does cooperate I can change my mind.

Good luck! I've talked to several friends about c-sections and they assured me the recovery is manageable.

  • My first was breech but I ended up going into labor before they even got to schedule me. They did a quick ultrasound to confirm he was still breech then did the CS. They keep telling me this baby is in perfect position but it doesn't really matter because I'm having a RCS.
  • I'm scheduled for this Tuesday at exactly 39 weeks. We tried the external version this past Friday but her little tush wasn't budging! Still wrapping my brain around all of it! Best of luck to you!!!!
  • @christinav13 me too!! Csection Tuesday at 10 am at exactly 39w!! .... Baby was head down 4 wks ago but turned back. I have (strangely) no anxiety.... Just utter excitement!! My mom had my sister and I via c-section...I was born nearly 34 yrs ago, so her incision is huge and things were a lot different... It's gotta be easier now. And, I kinda feel like recovery from childbirth has it's ups and downs no matter what, so there's no sense in stressing! Either way, baby will be in my arms Tuesday!!! Good luck to all of you!!!

  • I go in at 3pm.... Will be thinking good thoughts for you!! I've been so anxious (excited, too) but feel comfort hearing other people in the same situation!
  • (Lurking from the Dec 2013 board because we're now having a Nov LO)

I had a planned CS at 39w with #1 because she was breech.Everything went fine and I didn't think recovery was too bad at all.  I'll have a RCS on 11/1 because I'm high-risk this time and they are taking #2 at 34w.  Not nervous at all even though it may be a little harder recovery with a 21 mo old.  Good luck!!

  • Mine is Nov 15th. All for of my boys have been breach.
  • I just found out little man was breach on Thursday and go on this Thursday to see if I am a candidate to try a version. Does anyone know why they have to schedule a c-section when the baby is breach instead of letting baby decide when it is time to come? This is the only issue I have with a c-section if that is what it comes to. This is my second birth. TIA!
I give up on trying to create a ticker!! My due date is November 17th.

With my breech baby they said his position put him in danger of the cord coming out first which is why they did not want me to go into labor. I ended up in labor at 36 weeks. I had a dr appointment that day and once they determined I was in labor they told me to go straight to the hospital without even stopping home for my bags. I don't know if this is the case with all breech babies but that was my situation.
  • Mine was just scheduled for the 6th because she is breach. Still hoping she turns but I figure it is all for a reason and I will only be 37.5 weeks . Best of luck to you and I will be thinking about all of you next week!!

They DON'T have to.  You have the right to refuse.  I am planning to wait until natural labor starts to give her maximum time to flip (some babies flip as late as the day you go into labor). My doctor and I have an understanding and so even though she finally suggested I might want to schedule one in case labor doesn't start on its own (as she put it, your cervix usually dilates because the baby is putting pressure on it with its head) she is perfectly okay with me picking a date
after my due date.  My DH missed my last appointment due to work, but we talked it over and will be talking to her tomorrow about scheduling it for November 27th (41weeks 0days).  Our hospital does not let you schedule c sections the day of thanksgiving or the day after and DH's job requires he be there Dec 2-4th or we would give her a little more baking time, but I think 41 weeks is fair.

To be fair, I have had significantly more time than you to process this, high risk baby means I have had monthly ultrasounds + a few so I knew she was breech at 29, 31 and 36 week ultrasounds, c-section was not even mentioned as a serious consideration until this week (36).

From what I have read cord prolapse (cord coming out first) is a risk, but not anywhere near the risk it is if you attempt a vaginal breech birth, assuming you can find a provider that is willing to do it.  (I live in Richmond, and only ONE doctor in the whole area does it, I think that's a sign its probably not the smartest idea).

  • I just found out today little man is breech too. I'm just under 38 weeks and they scheduled me a c-section for nov 7th (39 weeks). Has anyone had luck getting their lil one to flip? I have been having a hard time since finding this out a few hours ago (darn hormones haha)
  • I was sobbing like a newborn myself before going in for my section. Right now with little Lila Angeline in my arms, all the heartache over not having the opportunity to experience natural childbirth is replaced with awe and amazement!!!!! I wish u and your little ones safe and healthy deliveries.... Head or tushie first, natural or section, it's amazing to finally have them!!!!! I'm thinking good thoughts for all!
  • Our little gymnast has flipped three times in the last three weeks! I was scheduled for a CS on Wednesday at 39 weeks but as they were prepping me for surgery, she was head down on the ultrasound. They sent me home! I can respect that they didn't do the CS with no medical reason, but talk about an emotional roller coaster! So now we wait... Best of luck to you all!
