If there's a Scrooge of Halloween, I'm it. — The Bump
Infertility

If there's a Scrooge of Halloween, I'm it.

Bah Humbug.

This year I am going to be "that house" with it's lights off. No candy here. It's too painful seeing other people's absolutely adorable kids paraded to my front door. In years past, I've dressed up our dog as a sheriff which the kids absolutely love. And even though it was painful, I did find some fun in it. But this year it just feels pathetic. :( I just can't stomach it tonight. I think DH and I are going to leave the house for dinner or something just so we don't even have to hear the doorbell ring over and over. I want November to be here already.

Is anyone else skipping Halloween this year?

Re: If there's a Scrooge of Halloween, I'm it.

  • I'm sorry. I totally get where you are coming from! Luckily, we don't get any trick-or-treaters here because we are in locked apartment buildings. My cousin invited me to come for Halloween treats and trick or treating with her 4 kids and I am going to go, only because I really want some yummy food, since dh has been working late all week and I'd be stuck at home eating boring chicken otherwise! My cousin's kids don't cause a painful reaction like seeing other people with tiny babies and bumps do...maybe because they're super naughty!

  • We don't get trick or treaters anyway because we are too far out in the woods. I thought about offering to hand out candy at one of my friends houses so they can both take their kids out together, but decided I couldn't deal with it either. Think I'll stay home and do nothing.

*Miraculous BFP July 2014!! (I was taking baby aspirin and Cabergoline to stay regulated while "taking a break from TTC" and waiting to consult with a reproductive immunologist!!!)

Our healthy baby girl was born 03/10/15 thanks to daily Lovenox injections and baby aspirin. There are no words for how grateful I am for our rainbow baby. <3

  • DH and I are definitely feeling this way.  I have to be at home until at least 7:15 to take my injections, but then after I think we are going to join friends (with no kids) at a bar where people are dressing up & a band is playing.  I don't want to miss out on Halloween, but I just don't think I can handle giving out candy.  So, Adult Halloween, it is!

    My TTC Journey:
Dx: Hypothalamic amenorrhea / mild PCOS (Pretty much a hormone/ovulatory disorder)
Progesterone to induce period w/ the goal of Clomid - never got period (September 2011). Referred to RE.
Femera - never responded to the meds (December 2011)
Clomid with TI - BFN (February 2012)
    Injectables (Menopur) - hyperstimulated/canceled (March 2012)
Injectables #2 (Menopur) with TI- BFN (May 2012)
IVF - OHSS (transfer canceled), but 11 frozen! (June 1012)
    FET - 1 transferred on 8/09/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 350.3; Beta#2: 365; Beta#3: 157. Biochemical pregnancy.
    FET # 2 - 1 transferred on 11/01/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 337; Beta#2: 769. BFP!!! 1st ultrasound 11/28/12 showed heartbeat, but measuring 5 days behind. 2nd ultrasound 12/05/12 - miscarriage.
    FET # 3 - 1 transferred on 1/24/13. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): BFN.
    FET # 4 - 2 transferred on 3/21/13.  Bet #1 (11dp5dt): 660; Beta#2: 1,300.  Miscarried at home @ 6 weeks.

    FET # 5 - 2 transferred on 7/12/13.  Beta #1 (10dp6dt): BFN.
Attempted an IUI in late August 2013, but didn't respond well.
IVF #2 with PGS - Stims started 10/28 with retrieval on 11/11.  Of 14 mature eggs, 10 fertilized, 4 made it to Day 5 & 1 made it to Day 6. We did PGS on the Day 5 embryos, and 3 of 4 were normal. Had ET on 11/17. Beta #1 (8dp6dt): 203. Beta #2 (10dp6dt): 618. We since had two ultrasounds & on 12/19, our RE released us to the OB.  On 1/02/14, we had our first ultrasound with the OB where we heard the heartbeat.  We are so thankful for the blessing & crossing every finger & toe for a healthy & successful pregnancy.

  • We are skipping it completely.  DH has drill (for Navy Reserves) this weekend, so I am going with him.  It's 4 hrs away (in the town we lived in before we moved) and I am looking forward to seeing my friends from home and drinking.  I usually love handing out candy because we have a lot of kids in the neighborhood, but this year is especially hard because of our loss.  Kid free zone as much as possible for me.

  • I want to skip! New kids on the block though and I'm afraid of the backlash. I plan on spiking my hot cocoa with some liqueur  :)

I'm hoping it gets rained out! If so, I'll bring my 20 bags of rice krispy treats to work, we sure don't need them! (yes...20 bags of 20 count...they said to prepare for > 300!) Ridonkulous!
