Hi ladies. I've been following this board and Feb 14 as my due date is January 31 so kiddo can go either way. I'm a FTM and this board has been a source of useful information and much needed inspiration. Growing this tiny human has been kicking my butt so far but I'm looking forward to having a beautiful baby at the end. I'm Team Hamburger (girl) which will be an experience as I'm not a girly girl and as a mechanical engineer I have been outnumbered by guys for at least ten years now.
I had to join the 3 hr Glucose club and yesterday was my test. Lets just say it didn't end well as I chucked everything up after 45 mins. Cue bawling on the floor of the lab restroom at the thought of having to drink the nasty orange stuff again, while a nurse frantically tries to find my SO. I suffered HG up to 22 weeks even with meds and I was not happy about the test triggering my throwing up. Thankfully my OB has agreed to blood sugar monitoring using those little kits and I now get to prick my self after every meal and keep a log. Anything is better than the orange stuff.
Any advice on good meals would be great. I'll look forward to chatting more with you ladies.
Re: Another Late Intro - XP from Jan 14 since my EDD is Jan 31, 2014.
You asked about recipes and one of my favorites lately has been spaghetti squash (especially if you have to watch your sugar intake) with a sautée of onion, garlic, tomatoes, basil and black olives. Spice it up with red pepper and vary veg if you'd like. You can add chicken or shrimp (or whatever). I've been loving this combo lately!
Good luck with the monitoring. I think spaghetti squash is a brilliant alternative. I also use shiratake noodles as a pasta substitute which can be found at most natural food stores.
One more quick idea is veggie pureed soups (carrots, brocoli, squash, beets) and servewiyh cottage cheese
