Who's still bfing?

Lucas and I are! I love bfing now I'm in awe of how my body works, some days he only nurses before bed and in the morning, somedays it seems like every three hours and I never get engorged but when he wants there's always milk.

At a year I told dh we'd go at least until 18 months or until one of us was unhappy with the set up well now we're approaching 18 months were both happy and I don't want to wean going into cold and flu season. So I guess I'm officially an extended breast feeder, I think we'll go until 24 months or until one of us is unhappy with it.

If your still bfing how's it going? Any real plans, complaints, or joys?

  • I'm not but I wish I was!  I miss it but it's way too late to turn back now.  I stopped when LO was about 5 months old.  I hated pumping and couldn't take it anymore so I stopped :(  Most days I wish I still had those nursing moments with him.

  • We still are. My goal was to let her self-wean, but I'm not sure I'll go past 24months either.

  • We are! Most days it's every 1.5-3 hours still. I have my moments where I get frustrated (she's a nipple twister!) but it's so convenient I don't think we will stop any time soon. On a grumpy/sick/teething day breast feeding is the only thing that makes her happy!
  • We are too! My initial goal was 12 months, then 15 months, now 18 months. But in all honesty I'll probably go past 18 months. Nursing is the only way DD goes to bed at night, and since she still wakes up in the MOTN then it's the only thing that puts her back to sleep. I think once she starts STTN then I'll start to wean. And I also don't think I'd go past 24 months.

I do love our bonding time though.

  • I wonder if once we reach 24 months I'll want to go longer, like I did at 12 months and now 18?

My oldest was ff my middle bf and ff I've been so thankful that this time, my last I could ebf.

  • After a really rough and painful start, and then a rebound of excruciating latch pain at 2 months, I am thrilled beyond belief that we are still bfing. Fifi only nurses once or twice a day. My goal was at least 6 months. When we made it to a year and more and more solid foods, I was thrilled to slowly be able to stop pumping (manual pump. ack!). I thought she was weening herself a few months ago, which made me so sad. Thankfully, she got back into the groove. I am not looking at an end time yet as we are both happy to be doing so at the present. She may end up being our one and only so every month she continues I count as a blessing.

Exact same thing here. In fact, I'm feeding as I type this, lol

So happy to know I'm not the only one!
  • Just twice a day, before bed and at morning wake up. LO is showing less interest in the evening nursing, some days just nursing for only 30 seconds before delatching and saying "All done" and wanting to go upstairs to bed. The morning nursing session is needed as LO will go back to sleep (sometimes until 8).
  • I'm so jealous! My LO self weaned at 14 1/2 months. She dropped to just 2 times a day and they were quick sessions and then she started wanting it less and I dried up. I was trying for 18 months but I'm okay that it didn't happen. She stopped when she was ready.
  • We are still nursing morning and night.  I totally thought that by now I would be dry and he would lose interest but I actually think he has gotten more interested in the last month.  I nursed DS#1 until 13.5 months and then he self weaned.  I wanted to nurse the first year and didn't have a target wean date.  I think I will actively start to wean him after the holidays.  I'm hoping he loses interest so that I don't have to wean him myself.
  • I stopped when I was about 6 weeks pregnant.  I was too tired and she weaned relatively easy, so she was probably nearing being ready.

  • Still nursing here, lo doesn't go to sleep unless he's really exhausted in the car, unless he is nursed and he still wakes at night. We want another lo so I'm torn about what to do, I'm hoping I can get pregnant again without weaning him, I did before but unfortunately had a mc, and we've been trying but my cycles have been really off. I don't have a problem with him self weaning if it doesn't prevent us from having another lo. Its hard to imagine how at 3 weeks I never thought I'd get the hang of it and now its the easiest thing in the world.
