I read it helps w/ egg quality and more embryos making it to blast. Is anyone else trying this? Not sure if it's the eating plan or the BCP but I'm super cranky! And there's Halloween candy every-freakin-where!

Re: Trying to eat low(er) carb during IVF - but not loving it!

  • I didn't really go low carb, because I get a lot of my protein from carbs (beans), but I went Gluten Free. I haven't been eating out at restaurants, so it hasn't been too hard, but I am off of all simple sugars and caffeine (so no chocolate :( ) that has been more difficult!
    Hang in there, girl!

  • @sunnyB I guess I should say lower carb. Avoiding breads and sugary junk but still eating fruits, veggies, beans and healthier carbs. Trying to boost protein intake!

  • I've been doing this in prep for IVF and also to lower my blood sugars.  I basically cut out all bread, rice, potatos and refined sugars.  Now that it's been two weeks, it's pretty easy.  I'm still eating veggies and fruits that have carbs because I've always found that going too extreme = the regime won't last, so I'm trying to be kind to my body.

    IVF #1 Oct 2013- cancelled
IVF #2 Mar 2014- success.... baby girl born 11/28/14
FET #1 Mar 2016- baby boy due 12/16/16

  • @boyankl, it looks like you will be just ahead of me- I start stims 11/9. The holidays SUCK for avoiding carbs- there is a Halloween potluck at work today and this week we had a fall themed potluck at church. My difficult time is in the morning, when I crave things like English muffins w/ PBJ, and evening, when I always wish for a little sweet after dinner. But anything to boost the chances for decent eggs that develop like they're supposed to, right?

  • @nootbar- I'd eat kale for breakfast lunch and dinner at this point if it would mean I could get pregnant and bring a baby home from the hospital.  Good to know we are cycle buddies- let's stay in close touch!

  • I started eating low carb and low glycemic a few months ago... I also cut out  caffeine ( which was the hardest).  I have lost 35lbs and it has gotten much easier although I cheat now and then.  My RE wanted me to lose weight because I am a poor responder and he is hoping that weight loss will help.  We shall see in a few weeks if it helped or not!

I still have a long way to go to reach my goal weight :(

  • I might be the exception, but I actually really like eating low carb AFTER the first few days of it. But those first few days suck! I've read a lot about how it works, and once your body switches burning carbs to burning stored fat, you start to feel great. Getting to that point sucks though, I'll give you that. Hang in there! I really believe in low carbing for lots of reasons!  :)

  • *siggy warning*

My RE recommended low carb, high protein after abysmal failures at my first two tries at IVF. I am a total carb person with a huge sweet tooth so it was really hard! I tried to not be too strict and also tried substituting things for what I craved- like salt and vinegar almonds when I wanted chips. I also tried pancakes and muffins with almond flour. Good luck!
Me:30 low AMH; DH:30 MFI (count, motility, morphology)
2 rounds clomid 100 mg -BFN
    IUI#1- 25 mg clomid- July 2012= BFN!
    IUI #2 August = BFN!
    IUI #3 September = BFN!

IVF #1 November - converted to IUI #4 due to poor response = BFN
IVF #1.2 February- converted to IUI #5 due to poor response = BFN
    IVF #1.3 April- micro dose Lupron flare with HGH; 14R, 13M, 11F! Transfer of 1 day 5 blast on 4/30, 4 frosties. BFP! Beta #1 9dp5dt= 179; Beta #2 11dp5dt= 442; Beta #3 4106 Stick baby stick!!
