How do you establish your rate? It's been awhile since I've freelanced, but in the past, I've gotten $100-$200, depending on assignment. Someone just asked me to do a 3,000-word (which is insanely long to me) article. $300? I don't want to rip her off, but I don't want to be working for a ridiculously low hourly rate either.

    In my experience, writing is at an insanely low hourly rate, lol.  I'd probably shoot back with "in the past I've asked $100 for a 750 word article, roughly" or something like that and ask her to make an offer.  To me it also matters if it's "just" writing, or if extensive research is involved.  If you're supposed to do a bunch of research and write, I'd ask more.

    Yeah, freelance is generally paying pretty low rates right now, but $300 for a 3,000 word article is not out of the way at all.
    Me: 27 DH: 28
    Diagnosis: PCOS, irregular cycles, old lady eggs. DH is fine.
    Started TTC in January 2010. BFP December 25, 2011 between IF appts. 
    DD born August 31, 2012
    Began TTC again in Jan. 2013. 
    Four rounds of Clomid - BFN
    Fifth round of Clomid September/Oct - cancelled
    HSG scheduled for Oct. 30 - Tubes all clear
    December: Round one of Femara  - BFN
    Round two - ?

    I think $60 - $75/hour is standard - and I'd estimate a minimum of 3 hours for any project, and probably more in the 5 or 6 range for 3,000 words (what is that, 6 pages or so?).

    About, yeah. I personally think it's WAY too long for an article. Who's reading that. Perhaps I should ask for $400, based on this, lol. Thanks for all the tips, ladies!

    That like a white paper in article form! I think $400 is reasonable. :)
