Just curious for you ladies who have their belly buttons pierced or could just help. I have mine pierced and I usually pre -pregnancy wear a big dangly ring. Now that im starting to get a little bigger, its beginning to hurt, and I really don't want it to stretch while im wearing the belly button ring and its just un comfortable. Have you girls taken yours out ? OR I know they make those clear bars that bend a lot easier that some people use I wasn't sure which route you went or if you just took it out all together . Thanks advice appreciated bc its starting to drive me crazy !!

I bought a pregnancy one. It sucked it would rub the wrong way and didn't move as well as a metal one. I took it out for that reason and the fact that I now have an outie belly button from this kid lol.
I haven't had mine in for years. If you're wanting To keep it open you can get a pregnancy ring which is a really long plastic bar. Otherwise I'd just take it out because the hole will stretch over the metal bar and could be weird after you're back to normal size.
I had a laproscopy for an ectopic back in Feb. One of the incisions was in my belly button and unfortunately due to a bad reaction to the medical glue that they close with (which is in the process of being recalled) I have a pretty bad leftover mark/scare inside my belly button. I actually went to see a wound specialist to figure out what was going on with it, as it took until about May/June to heal.
I am worried that it may stretch and even open.
I already talked to my OB about it and she basically said, if it opens we will deal with it. She didn't seem too concerned.

Anyone else experience any tearing from scarring?
No tearing, but I do have several small scars from a robotic surgery I had done on my uterus in 2012. They are all stretching a bit, but the most noticeable one by far is the one slightly above my belly button, which is really stretched out right now. It's also the only vertical scar, which I was told wouldn't heal as nicely to begin with because the cut went against the natural grain of the skin. I'm hoping it doesn't get too much worse as my belly gets larger.

No experience but I'm in the exact boat (laparoscopic on feb 15th for ectopic). So far everything seems ok. I think it's a wait and see but just know you have someone here on the board that truly knows what your going through and the additional worries it bring. Hugs*
I took mine out the first time I got pregnant. I still kind of miss it, but I doubt I'd want it post-baby. If I get my stomach looking that awesome, I could always redo it, but now that I'm 30 I think I'm starting to be too old for it anyway. It was a fun part of being young
I took mine out years and years ago. But it still looks weird and stretched out from pregnancy. My belly button didn't get through my first pregnancy prettily.
My friend'a doctor told her during her first pregnancy that she would be fine and she didn't need to take it out. But she definitely has a weird looking scar and is kicking herself now for it!
@ellajune2012 Thanks for the input. My OB said that the skin can take alot, so it shouldn't tear. I know it will stretch but hopefully after won't look too terrible. I really hope to be back to bikini shape at some point pp, especially being in Florida, but as a FTM never know what I will look like after.
@missfunball Although the experience sucked and I wouldn't wish it on my enemies, glad I have someone to commiserate with. My surgery was just before yours on the 8th. Keep in touch if anything develops.
I took my out around 11 weeks with DS's pregnancy. A friend of my kept hers in with a clear/flexible bar and now it looks kind of awful now. If I hadn't had my stomach attacked by rabid badgers(aka stretch marks)... I would get it redone...

@woodshopgirl - the bikini shape is really going to depend on genetics. Stretch marks seem to be the biggest hindrance for most people. Or if you get the c-section pouch, but that doesn't happen to everyone w/ a section.

On an age-note...my mom is 52 and told me the other day that she's going to get hers pierced in a couple of weeks. She also got her nose pierced a couple of months ago.
Never too old for body mod! My Grandma got her first and only tattoo at 85.
With my first pregnancy I took it out and was able to put it back in after. This time I want to get a pregnancy belly button ring. I had originally thought my closed up after my first and got scared but kept trying and finally was able to pop it through.
I got mine pierced freshman year of college and wore it on and off for a few years. I think it has been about 6 years since I took it out but I definitely have a small scar from the piercing that I already hate. I am way worried what my stomach, especially the scar, will look like after March! I stopped showing my stomach in public years ago so I don't know why it would really matter, but it kinda does. Oh well, the price you pay!
Not belly related BUT I had a breast reduction in 2011 and certain parts didn't want to heal ( I keloid) when my boobs got bigger with this pregnancy they slightly reopened but closed back up pretty easy. Hopefully yours won't open but if it does maybe since it healed once it would heal faster this time? Just throwing it out there
From anecdotal experience with friends, you will have a weird scar no matter when you take it out, even if you took it out a year before you got pregnant. If it was pierced for a while, you have scar tissue there, and it will stretch, no matter how early or late you take it out. I am keeping mine in as long as possible so it doesn't close (although I've had it for 13 years so I doubt it will). I figure if I'm going to have an ugly scar I may as well have a ring to cover it.
I took mine out right after the first trimester ended. Frankly it just started to look weird and you could see it through my shirts. Not cute when you're sporting a bloat belly! I'm glad I did too because now at 22 weeks I'm quickly developing an outie. Don't know how much longer I could have lasted with it in.
I took mine out bc my friends left hers in and it looks weird now. I've had it for almost 11 years so it will take forever to close up. I actually took it out for 9 months when I went to boot camp and was able to pop it back in when I wanted it. I kind of hope it closes now though so I don't get a huge line like scar instead of just a dot from the top of the hole.
Mine's been out for just over a year. I'm interested to see what it'll do. The bottom closed up but the top is still partially open. It was pierced when I was 18 (11 yrs ago).

I took mine out. My sister in law bought an extension piece with her first baby and now she hates how her piercing got stretched. After she has this baby that's due in January she's planning to get repierced.
I took it out at like week 7 afte I posted on here about it and heard stories of scarring and weird-looking bellybuttons!! I've had mine since I was 16 so it's so weird to not see it pierced anymore!!!

Promise, but all signs point to normal, though the side scars will be interesting to watch develop as well. I'm glad that while it was both a hardship, it helped me realize that I really did want to be a mom, and do that with my partner. I'm glad we are both resilient and fertile enough to be already expecting March LO's

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully if I re-open it will be minor. Just another thing about recovery to look forward to.

We must be twins. I got my BFP the first month we tried back in Jan and freaked that I wasn't ready. Then of course after the loss, it made me realize that it was what I truly wanted, so in hindsight it helped me settle into the future role a little easier.
I haven't taken mine out yet because I'm still pretty small and not stretching anything. Doctor said I'm not going to get too big since I'm tiny, therefore I can leave mine in.
I left mine in 4a while when I was pregnant 1st time around......when I did take it out I ended up with the hole stretching and got a few stretch marks from it!! ( That was 5years ago now, I did have it re-pierced so as soon as I found out I was pregnant with this baby I took it out even before my belly swelled & bought some oil to rub on. I'm at 19w now & so far there's no signs of new stretch marks so I have my fingers, toes, & everything crossed I've cracked it this time lol!! Here's hoping......
I took mine out a few years before getting pregnant with dd and it still went from a small hole to more of a hyphen looking thing during pregnancy. It went back down afterward but still is visible and no where near as small of a hole as it was pre-pregnancy.
