Ew: exploding diapers

LO keeps having these explosive poos and they come out the back of her diapers! We use Pampers swaddlers. Is there a better diaper for this issue? Any advice helps!

Re: Ew: exploding diapers

  • Is the diaper to small? Maybe try a size up, I use pampers baby dry and I love them, target brand is good too.

I think with diapers tho it's your own preference, it's basically trial an error
  • Loading the player...
  • Duct tape

Kidding! I CD and don't have this problem. DH uses sposises and has this issue. We just kinda deal with it. And do a lot of laundry.
  • Pull it up as high as it could go in the back, move to the next size up. I had that problem but I still had a bunch of size ones left from an open pack. He had a pooplosion every few days. Since I went up a size on Saturday, no more!

  • Size up. Huggies did this all the time for us. Target brand diapers have never failed us.

  • Cloth. :) They truly hold in everything! We use prefolds with Thirsties covers. When we go out, or we're traveling, I actually put a cover over the disposable diaper, just for blowout protection!.

  • We cloth diaper, and I've never had a leak. She has huge poops all the time, too.
This is why I love cloth!

OP, size up.  It will help contain the poo.

Also, damn we call @lokilahve a PW, but @cbreef you certainly have a lot of these.  41 discussions to only 58 replies?  That's a PW ratio if I ever heard of one :)
    Who are you?

  • We moved up a size when we had this issue from newborn to a 1. It's just about time to move up again. I buy Huggies. The stretchy back seem to "hold" it all in better than Pampers does IMO. But sometimes it's just so much no diaper would hold it!
  • Up a size! I wouldn't go off weight as much as fit.
  • Better diaper...i'd suggest cloth! Every time LO is in any disposable, he blows out of it when he poops. I haven't had any blowouts or leaks in cloth. I use the Bumgenius freetime and I love them!

  • Ha! I like that it matters to some people who I am. I should reply more, it's true.
Anyway, we are already in size 2. I can't imagine she's a size 3 already, but maybe I'll get a small pack and try them out. Thank you!

Fwiw, my oldest was in size 4s by six months due to blowouts. He stayed in a size 4 for almost a year then.

  • check the positioning of the diaper (might be too low or not tight enough) if that doesn't work go a size up.

  • We cloth diaper but when the laundry is in and I'm lazy he wears disposables. He is in size 3 because of absorbency not size.

I sent a pic to DH today at work of the poopsplosion we had (all over my outfit and a chair). I am always reminding him of how much better CDs are.

We cloth as well and it's awesome how much they keep in especially since LO loves to poop while he's being burped sitting on my leg so it all shoots up the back. Have only ever had blowouts when we had to use disposables when we were staying overnight out of town. The cloth also keeps the smell in amazingly well

I use pampers swaddlers and have never had this issue. Are they too big/small? OP, if you aren't interested in CD'ing (which I definitely was not) try looking at sizing.

  • I didn't realize that CD really minimize blowouts. The true elastic along the back helps keep it all in. The few times she is in disposables they leak out the back :(

  • We CD too and have only had one leak in them and that was due to user error (DH put it on too loose)
The only time we used disposibles was when we went camping a few weeks ago. He was fine when he was upright but if he was laying down when he went, it went all up his back. So gross. Next time I have to use disposables, I'm going to at least bring my covers to go over the them.
  • Sometimes it's their positioning too. If it's only happened a few rare times it might be that. When LO has a huge poop in his car seat it's almost destined to go up his back.

Seriously. No matter brand or size, disposables leaked on him. With cloth I've only had leaks with one specific cover that doesn't fit him right.

Huggies run small. I could easily use a 1 in pampers or a 3 in Huggies... We settled on a 2 in luvs. They have the best size leg holes for him.

  • I also use Pampers Swaddlers and haven't had an issue.  I would agree with many of the other posters to try a size bigger and/or be sure it is up high enough in the back.
  • Today we had a major poopsplosion, and had we not already gone up a size, it would have totally been up his back. We seriously had like less than a quarter inch left from the top of the diaper and the poop. It was amazing!

  • We use pampers swaddlers and have never had a blow out. I agree with the going up a size and checking positioning/tightness.

Just watch, now that I've said that, she's going to be covered head to toe when she wakes up next.

  • We are on size three even though LO is petite, it's more for absorbency and fit. In Ireland we have these lovely organic, biodegradable nappies called nature babycare, and we've never had a blowout, nappy rash or anything.
