How is your skin?

I had some serious pimple issues in the first tri but thankfully those went away. But now my skin has turned very sensitive, prone to redness and dry. I have almost scaly patches around my mouth and on my eyelids of all places! That's a new one for me. What the heck?? For now I'm keeping up with my standard Olay+Philosophy regiment but I'm wondering if I should change something up. How is your skin and how have you been taking care of it if you're having issues.

Re: How is your skin?

  • I've had a constant break out going on on my right shoulder since 1st trimester... It's still here, and gets worse when I wash it with anything, even soap! So I have to use just warm water and a rag... I get a few random pimples on different areas occasionally and they react well to a good soap filled cleaning, and go away fast, but I can't get my shoulder to clear for the life of me! As for everything else, my skin has actually gotten a lot softer (used to have a little eczema on my arms that's gone), hopefully it lasts through winter!

  • My skin has been pretty decent, thankfully. The breakouts have definitely slowed down. At this point, I'm really just dealing with dryness, which I deal with every year when the weather starts to get cold. I use Vichy's Aqualia Thermal light moisturizer and it does a good job (way better than anything else I've tried)

  • Fingers crossed, my skin has cleared from the first tri breakouts. My lips are pretty dry, but I'm also really bad and forget to Apply Chapstick.

Now, my hands are a different story. I have those red scaly patches between my fingers. No amount of lotion has been able to moisturize it enough. If you figure out something that works, let me know!

  • I broke out on my back during the first trimester...now, my skin is just really oily!!

  • I resemble myself from 8th grade again. Face is breaking out so bad and it's all on my arms, chest and back.

  • My back has broken out a lot, and I just gave up on resolving that [thank goodness it's not bathing suit season]. My face is better, thank goodness. I use Belli face wash, witch hazel and Cetaphil...I'll probably keep that up for awhile, unless my skin goes bezerk on me again.

  • Before I got pregnant, I constantly would break out. This whole pregnancy, my face has been so clear! But my arms, chest and back are broken out in a million little red dots. Not zits, but looks like it. Maybe even worse.

  • Overall my skin has been a bit dry but no blemishes. Until about a month ago I got a monster zit on the side of my nose and nothing is working to get rid of it.

This for me too! My chest (between my boobs, no doubt from sweating buckets all night!), and back are terrible.

  • I've been having a few more breakouts than usual on my chin, but otherwise my face is clear. It's my poor hands that are getting the worst of it. They've been dry and flaky since the beginning of my first trimester, and lotion doesn't seem to help very much.

  • My face is the only area where my skin is sort of behaving. It's clearer than usual (and WAY clearer than my last pregnancy) but I am starting to see my cholasma creep up onto my jawline. :(

My chest, arms, belly, and back are covered in what my OB says is cholasma. But it's backwards. Instead of darker spots, mine are pale. My skin is dry and a little itchy but I lotion with the cocoa butter variety of Vaseline lotion twice a day and that really helps. I still wear scarves A LOT though because I feel like everyone must look at these spots and wonder what's up.

  • I keep breaking out on my chin. I'm so itchy though! My back and chest itch the most and it drives me crazy!! I've been using baby lotion or I just sit in the shower.
  • Wow I guess the hormones are doing a number on a lot of us - interesting that different people have different problems. Good luck to everyone to getting their zits under control. It's annoying :(

I'm nervous about using something super oily or rich on my face to get rid of the flaky dryness in case it causes me to break out but I guess I have to start experimenting.

@bluegreeneyes11  - not to scare you but I would have a derm take a look at it. I got something like that on the tip of my nose during the last pregnancy and they had to have it tested for being a staph infection because apparently the nose is a common area for it to manifest (and I had a history of having several staph infections which started as zits and progressed to lesions on my torso). It ended up being non-staph (thank god) but it was so persistent and painful that eventually she gave me a cortisone shot on it.

  • I've had obnoxiously clear skin up until this point. It's still clear, but now it's dry, red, and peeling right between my eyes mostly and on my nose. I moisturize every day and night like I had been and it's not going away.

  • I have really dry patches on my face! Behind my ears. Getting pretty itchy by the arm pits .... And also veeeery often under my breast, like near the bra line. Could be quite disturbing. But I am not letting it make me freak out . It's to bad . I will just have to get over it
  • I've been blaming my new dry skin on the winter air. It's gotten cold where I live. And it usually takes a toll on my skin every winter. But maybe pregnancy hormones should get some of the blame too.

  • Just wanted to add too that my lips have never been so dry!! Even if I put chapstick on, they are always dry, or cracked!! It's terrible!!

  • I've had a lifetime of issues with patches of dry skin in the creases of the skin such as eyelids and arm pits, back of ear. I would recommend aquaphor. Only use a little on your eyelids.

I use Eucerine for very dry skin after the shower and my dermatologist recommended that I apply lotion before toweling dry. Since applying lotion to wet skin felt weird and messy, I've found a compromise by patting my skin with the towel so I still see some drops of water and then applying the lotion all over. It has made a huge difference, I'm so much less itchy!

I've also noticed patches of dry skin on my cheeks (new to pregnancy).  I randomly tried Palmer's Cocoa Butter with vit E oil and that has solved the issue.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice @litzo27 - I will be sure to get it checked out if it doesn't go away soon. I may have picked at it last night and it seems to be improving.

@kiwi110 I will have to try a clay mask if the witch hazel doesn't help. I think it was just a stubborn one with no way to get the stuff out. Gross sorry for the tmi

  • Mine is def very dry now but it usually gets this way at this time of the year so I don't know how much is pregnancy related.
  • My skin has not been to bad. I pimple here and there. Lately It has been super oily tho! Its gross I feel like I no sooner wash it and it feels all greasy.

  • My skin has been pretty decent, except for the burst capillaries on my cheeks, around my lips and on my chest when my HG has flare ups.

My lips have been extremely dry and chapped though.
