C-sections

Experienced C-Section mamas....

I typically am just on the multiples board but thought of a question tonight. I am 23 weeks with twin boys and have a section scheduled for Dec 11th ( I know still far away but im a planner) I am wondering what all you ladies packed in your hospital bag you felt was essential or wish you had brought? Mine is pretty excepting of wearing your own cloths, comfort items etc and I believe I will be there for 4 to 5 days. I just have no idea what I should bring. Sorry if this has been asked before im sure its probably a common question I had a vaginal birth with my son but I have a feeling this time will be a lot different especially with twins. Thanks everyone!

Re: Experienced C-Section mamas....

  • Comfy gown(s) and loose clothing for going home. I took my own pillows the second time around because they are a lot softer (and I didn't have to worry about them running out). Other than that just take anything you find that makes you more comfortable.

  • If you bring clothes, pack things that won't sit on your incision. I lived in maxi dresses for 2 or 3 weeks after my c/s. If you're nursing a twin nursing pillow will be handy too.

  • Pants for the ride home that don't sit low on your hips and don't have a tight waist band. Yoga pants are a good option.
  • My trip to the hospital was a surprise so I had nothing but the contents of my purse! The only thing I cared about was for someone to bring me a camera (this was way back 6 years ago before i had a camera phone.) My sister who had a c section before brought me comfy cotton shorts and tank tops but it was August. This time I will probably get some yoga pants. Second time I brought a nursing pillow because that was very helpful protecting my incision. I didn't go crazy because I had family back and forth the whole time who could bring stuff if needed.
  • I didn't really use much I had packed. I wore the hospital gowns with no nursing bra or anything. I obviously wore my own clothes home but didn't wear them at the hospital. I used their mesh undies and pads. I guess toiletries are needed. I would consider bringing my own pillow next time.

  • I had my sister go out and buy me some high-waisted panties so the elastic wouldn't sit on my incision.

  • You own comfy clothes, slippers, toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, hair brush, pillow and pads. I felt more comfortable in my own clothes and brought my own soap, shampoo ect because I would rather have the smell of "home" with me than smelling like sterile hospital.
  • Thanks so much everyone! this helped a lot! My MBF twins nursing pillow will for sure be coming with me now I didnt even consider that helping to protect my incision! ESD thanks for the idea I have quite a few sets of the silk pajama sets from VS that button up those will be great for nuring in and I didnt even consider bringing them but they are so comfy I may pick up a few more or some cheap ones from target that are similar style if im bleeding heavy.

  • had a maxi dress for the ride home.  It was great!  super comfy and didn't both my incision.

I had a pair of drawstring shorts that was perfert for post. . it fit over all the swelling and everything.
  • I took slippers. The dr will want you to walk the halls a lot afterwards to help you with the pain. And it's impossible to bend over! So slippers were awesome. I even wore them home! Along with sweat pants!!
  • Yay Dec 11th! I'm having my RCS that day too!

This is my 3rd C/S and I personally prefer my items over hospital gowns. You'll have to walk alot to get the air bubbles from surgery out of your system & help smooth out your insides.

    - 3-4 pairs of high waist yoga pants or loose drawstring pants you can wear near your belly button
-3-4 nursing tanks or built in bra tanks
-2 loose simple cardigans. warm, comfy and you look/feel more put together
-4-5 pairs of hanes high wasted granny pannies, way better than the stupid mesh undies they give you and cheap enough you can bleach em, wash them and throw them away
1 robe, 1 pair of slippers to walk the halls in
a comfy pillow from home makes a difference
-travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion, chapstick, ponytail holders, nursing cream,
