Anatomy scan on Monday showed that baby has small mass in lung called a CCAM. Small now but from what I've read it grows mostly between weeks 20 and 26 (I'm currently 19 weeks). Prognosis is good but will likely require surgery in little one to remove...depending on severity it could be right after delivery or sometime later in first year. I really still don't have too much info...my first appointment is with a Perinatologist on Monday where they will repeat the ultrasound. I was really not expecting this...but I guess no one does since the chances are 1 in 30,000. There is a small chance it could disappear before delivery but I'm trying to get into the state of mind that I won't have my baby right after delivery and that I'll have to plan for surgery as part of my FMLA.
Thought I'd put this out there in the off chance that someone has heard of this and can offer any info. As always, support is appreciated in any form! Thanks for listening!
Re: Mass/cyst in baby's lung
Thanks for helping to make me feel a little better about things. The more info I get the more I hope that baby will come out crying and just fine. I assume that the baby will be taken right away to be checked etc and it won't be like a normal birth, is that usually the case? I'm trying to adjust my expectations after a relaxed birthing experience with my daughter involving just two nurses and a doctor.
My doctor did tell me that I'd be meeting with a pediatric specialist in my third trimester so I'm sure that once we get to that point we will have a lot more information and a better idea of what to expect.
Thanks again for all the info!! Monday seems like ages away but I'm hoping I'll have a lot more info then, at least regarding our particular situation.
