12,000th short nap post

Has anyone successfully gotten past the short nap stage? At this point the kid goes down like a champ... One twinkle twinkle little star and a Mary had a little lamb and in the crib & he's out. However, 32 minutes later, he's up! Then he's a cranky monster until his next nap! It's so sad! He's 4 months Friday and I was hoping they'd consolidate. I just want him to be well-rested. Poor little bug! There's a lot of exclamation points in this post! But I'm passionate about this subject!!!!!!

  • My 2-3 hour napper has started to wake after short periods....I find if I get her up for a few minutes, feed a little more, she will go back down....

I do this too. He woke up after 40 min today so I nursed him a bit and he's still sleeping over an hour later.

Thanks, all! We have been working on naps for a few weeks and it's been a tough road but it's awesome that it doesn't take 30 minutes of rocking, nursing, and crying anymore! I just know he's tired and needs more sleep so it's hard. Hopefully by 6 months it will be resolved and he will consolidate his sleeps!

ETA: he just took a 44 minute nap which makes me extremely happy.

Isn't it crazy how excited we get about the little things- like 44 min nap instead of 32? This morning I did a happy ghetto dance all by myself in the kitchen in my underwear because I pumped 10 oz after our morning nursing session rather than my usual 5. Ahhh parenthood lol
Totally! Woo 10 oz! That's amazing! Yesterday we went to the 4 month appt and the doctor was checking his hips and he started laughing hysterically! My husband and I talked about it like every 20 minutes for the rest of the day. It was hilarious! I'm still laughing about it. Love this little dude so much!
  • So we've had two days where he consolidated his second nap of the day (late morning), but the last two days he didn't. Normally its 45mins every time. Little guy gets up crying and crabby so I know he needs a longer nap. By the afternoon we are normally at home so I'll bring him to the couch when he wakes and lie down with him and nurse him laying down and he can sleep like that for ay least another hour or more. I just make sure I have my Kindle, phone and TV remote close :)

Hoping it resolves soon. My niece is 5 months and my sister just reported that she's just started to consolidate this week. There's hope!!
  • Sometimes we get 30 minutes, sometimes 2 hours. I can't figure any rhyme or reason with it. Just the luck of the draw.

  • My guy naps like exactly 30 minutes in the crib.  Grandma had him for a few hours yesterday- he slept the WHOLE time!  She said over 2 hours!   This was in a vibrating chair.  He doesn't do that in our chair!   Lately, I've been letting him take one nap in his swing a day.  He sleeps over an hour there.  I enjoy that, but I afraid it will make it harder for him to sleep in the crib.

My girl is still a swing napper. I know I will have to transition her eventually, but for now it works so I'm not messing with it!!!!!
