Headache Remedy

I have been having headaches like nobody's business the last few weeks. I know Tylenol is okay, but I don't like the idea of popping two tylenol every 6 hours for the next 5 months.  Anybody have any home remedies for headaches? They're not migraines, just a constant throbbing right smack in the middle of my forehead.

    Pressure point massage can work.

One of the nurses at work do this to me when I have a headache and want pain relief, it works every time!

edited to say she doesnt do the foot one, just the head and hand ones! Good Luck!

  • I used an ice pack in my head last night while laying down and that worked. Sometimes I'll also put it on the back of my head right about my neck and that does the trick.
  • A ice cold Coke and a cold compress . On the head and neck Works everytime
  • I have heard that peppermint oil on your temples works wonders.
  • I always have an ice pack. My doc told me to get vitamin B2 and magnesium every day as a preventative. I'm not sure if it's really going to work, I've only been doing it for a week. Obviously ask your doc before getting these... I'll let you know if it helps at all!

  • Coffee. For real.

  • I second the ice pack and peppermint oil suggestion.
  • Yes - the caffeine works too! I had a constant headache for two days. I was trying to stay away from all caffeine and at lunch one day I had two small glasses of diet coke. The relief was almost immediate!
  • I have coffee anyway. The headaches will be there no matter what if you have them. I popped 2 tylenol every 6 hours for 3 weeks. The last two days have been 1/3 of the pain as usual, so I am hopeful it's letting up. I'm now on more than 6 hours between and this morning only one tylenol instead of 2. Hugs!!

Pressure point massage can really help, but you need to be careful.  The hand point between thumb and finger can also cause premature labor.  Just do your research before you try it.

  • Hot/cold compresses seem to work okay for me. Did you tell your doctor about your headaches? I know my midwife wants me to give her a heads-up when I have a headache that's not relieved by Tylenol or rest.
