Birthing Classes?

Hello did anyone attend a birthing class? If so, did you find it to be helpful for someone who's having a natural birth,  or did someone find a class for natural birthing?

I live in the NY Metro area if anyone can recommend something please let me know thank you!!!!

Re: Birthing Classes?

  • google is your friend when it comes to finding classes near you. You can get by without a formal teacher-student class if you have enough discipline to do some sort of home study. (hypnobirthing, hypnobabies, bradley etc. but you're going to want some sort of knowledge and method if you want a successful NB. GL

  • I did hypnobirthing classes, and while I ended up with a c-section, it was useful throughout labor and during the surgery.

  • I did the Bradley Method, and it was extremely useful in preparing me and DH for natural birth.  Bradley classes are a commitment.  They are 12 weeks long (once a week).  It was worth it for me, particularly the focus on the partner's preparedness.  If you google it, I'm sure you can find some classes in your area.

I don't think I could have done the natural birth without the preparation of the classes.

  • We also did Bradley. I loved them. DH wouldn't just sit down and read a book if I asked him, but going to the classes got him all of the information and he was awesome in labor. Plus it gives a forum to actually practice different coping techniques, which I would have felt silly doing just on my own. I agree with PP that the classes were essential for me to have a successful med free birth (labor was 36 hrs).

  • Birth boot camp here (A lot from the Bradley Method and Birth Without Fear) ten week commitment and it is really worth it. They require us to take it to qualify for a VBAC at my birthcenter... But my Husband is finding it really helpful and we enjoy the time as a couple :)
