Membrane stripping

So I had my membranes stripped today and that ish hurt like heck!!!! Wondering if anyone else ever had this done and what is your experience. Any spotting, cramping, contractions, etc. How long after and did it put you in labor. I am scheduled for induction next Monday at 39 weeks and I am already 2 cm 80%.

Re: Membrane stripping

  • I had mine stripped during my induction with my first. It was honestly the most painful part of the whole process! It also didn't help! :(

  • Why would they strip them before your due date?  Or so far before your induction?

  • SoMoNY they did it to try to get me to go naturally on my own rather than being induced and it was only a week before my due date. Not that far....
  • Or/ my induction date.
  • Stripping can make you go into labor in less than 24 hours which would have put you before 29 weeks.

I've never heard of a doctor doing it before before 39 weeks.

my coworker had her's done at 7:30am appointment, had daughter just after 2am the next day
  • @SoMoNY, membrane stripping doesn't always do anything, especially on the first try.  If her induction is scheduled at 39 weeks, doing the membrane stripping at 38 weeks isn't unusual.  It's like doing it at 39 weeks if you're being induced at 40 weeks.  Your coworker had a situation where she went into labor shortly after the stripping.  Not everyone's situation is like that.
