exercise after c-section

I had an unplanned c-section so I haven't done much research/prep/etc on recovery, but I am eager to start exercising again; I know the limits of my body but not my internal stitches/healing process so I'm wondering if anyone has tips or resources on how to get back into exercise?! I was working out regularly/in good shape before and am now just under 2 weeks postpartum (I know I can't do much yet, but want to start gathering info/planning how I will get back into things). So far I've eased into walking about 30-45 minutes a day, sometimes more, with a stroller, baby moby wrapped to me, or with my dog.

I would say walking only at this point.

Even with a toddler at home, my OB didn't want me to even lift a laundry basket. I wanted to heal so I followed my post partum instructions best I could. Everyone is different so you'll need to decide what's best for you. I was pretty active throughout my pregnancy so it was weird to take it easy. My OB gave me the okay to ease into a normal routine staring at 5 to 6 weeks pp.

My coworker had an internal stitch rip from over doing it.

  • I walked an hour a day with the stroller until my OBGYN gave me the green light to resume normal activities which was at 6 weeks.
  • At two weeks pp I started engaging and holding my abdominal muscles tight for twenty seconds and increased from there. I would do this while pumping or driving. Sitting up straight is a huge benefit. Then I would engage my abdominal muscles by walking, I tried to focuss on always keeping them tight even while I was doing things like dishes. At 12 weeks I started Insanity. I have a four pack and weigh what I weighed in college. My point is you don't have to start with a routine to be concious of your muscle groups.
  • wait until you're cleared to do more than walking. I'm an exercise fanatic (Crossfitter) and I still waited. it's just safest, you want to make sure everything is healed

  • I'd wait until cleared to do more than walking- I had a c-section and was told to be careful walking up stairs and only to lift our 5lb newborn.

I'd just take it slow with walking with the baby- careful with the pup!! I didn't walk our dogs until 5 or 6 weeks b/c they tend to drag me sometimes or yank the leash (not DH, he's the pack leader or whatever) but me with DD and 2 big dogs was not a good combo post c.
