Leapfrog TAG Reader opinions

Does anyone have either the TAG or TAG Jr reading system?  Do you like it?  I was thinking it might be a good toy to use for long car trips.  Just wanted to get some opinions on it, is it worth the money?  Are the two pens compatible with the books for each?

Re: Leapfrog TAG Reader opinions

  • DD has the TAG and she loves it.  She has always been into books and she thinks it is tons of fun.  It can be loud, but the pen also takes headphones, so with that I think it would be perfect for in the car.

  • My DD1 loves it, too.  She feels like a big shot because she can "read" on her own.
  • My son really loved this when he was 3-5.  I believe the Tag pen can read the Tag Jr. books but not sure if it works the other way around.  The only thing I didn't like was that at some point we had more books than could fit in the pen's memory.  They have probably increased the memory space by now.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • We have it and I'm not a huge fan.  DS might be too young for it, but he seems to just keep touching the same word or "extra feature" over and over again and not actually reading the story.  I think it will be better when he is learning to read on his own.
