Boy potty training advice for you

Just wanted to say that I thought b/c I had a boy it would be easier for him to sit on the toilet to train.  B/c that's what so many had said.  Then I met a man who said he trained his son simply but telling him to stand on a stool in front of the toilet & pee like daddy does.  I also thought I needed to stay home for like 3 days straight.  Nope.  He was trained by the second pee.  Later that afternoon we even left the house for hours & he peed everywhere we went-an adventure!  No prob with poops either.  Also it's worth noting the Kohler has a seat that has a child insert built in (the Transitions Q3)!  Not sure if it's universal or only for some Kohlers.  But it's awesome.

    Definitely sounds like your little one was super ready. :)  

    My son won't stand to pee but he will sit on a toilet backwards. I tried the game of putting Cheerios in and having him aim but he got upset that I threw Cheerios in the potty so then we just aimed at pieces of toilet paper.

    We haven't officially started PT yet, but your comment about your son getting upset over the Cheerios made me chuckle. I can totally imagine DS1 doing the exact same thing!

    It's great that you are following your son's lead, I had a similar experience with DD she 'got it' almost immediately and we never stayed home.  While it's good to share experiences, I think it's also good to acknowledge that different kids respond to different approaches and what worked well for you might not work well for others.  

    Enjoy not having the buy/wash diapers anymore! :)

    I didn't mean it as a brag, I meant it exactly how you stated that different experiences work for others.  My point was that since usually you hear about young boys peeing while sitting, that one might consider taking a different approach.  Funny that just b/c my boy was successful at the traditional way of older male urination you thought I wasn't acknowledging different approaches.  Do I detect jealousy or are you just really pc? Or have I gotten it totally wrong?

    I agree with you to be open to them standing.  My son prefers it because he gets scared sitting on the big potty (even with a ring) and doesn't always like to use the little one :)

    I think it was mostly the title of your post I was reacting to, when I went back and read it minus the title it had a more helpful in tone and less of 'This is what YOU should do."  I guess I was a little worried that someone might read this and feel like they were doing something wrong if their child did have to stay home the first few days or if they were struggling with pooping on the potty, or if they weren't 'trained by the second pee' that type of thing.  I wrote what I wrote in the hopes that anyone reading it feeling as if they were doing something wrong wouldn't feel that way.  I know that was not your intention and can tell you are not bragging.   

    And I would admit it if I were jealous, I had a very similar experience to what you are describing.
