Play yard

I'm thinking of creating a play yard in our condo. Our main room is the kitchen, living room and dining room all combined into a large "great" room. We also have a 15 month old yellow lab who would love to get his paws on any of our LO's toys. Thus far, I do tummy time with him on the floor but then have to put it away afterwards. If he's not in my arms, in the Moby or napping then he's pretty happy with his Snuggabunny or Mamaroo. But we feel like he's getting tired of the Snuggabunny and I want to encourage play with other things as well - such as an activity mat. I also want to be able to keep the toys out.

I was thinking of getting these two things to create a play yard.

Thoughts?

See, I like the mat idea however I feel like the wood gate would be a waste because your LO will grow out of that quite fast. It would be awesome if it expanded so it could "grow with baby".

  • Meh. DD never would have dealt with being contained. I just deal with the fur, vacuum often and put toys away when we're finished.

At this age/through the first year or so you need so few toys. I kept them all contained in an ottoman that doubles as our coffee table/foot rest.

  • I like the idea of getting a storage box that doubles as a sitting bench.

@petey1106 - we're working on that too. Obviously that would be idea for him not to go after our LO's toys but he's a lab puppy so it'll take some time. As my trainer said, "a lab is like a mouth with a dog attached to it."

  • My friend has that set up for her 1 year old - but she has the plastic corral which expands into other shapes.  She extends it so it blocks off the entryway to both the kitchen and formal living room from her family room.

I have the mat on my amazon wish list, we'll be getting it once LO can sit up on his own and is a little more mobile.

Furbaby 2 isn't a toy thief like Furbaby 1 was. I can actually leave all the toys gathered on her activity mat without having to worry about them being picked up or chewed on.
However, Furbaby 2 is a lab/shep mix which makes for a lot of dog hair.
I agree w/ V&G, I will get a play mat once she can sit up an is more mobile. Right now she doen't move off of the activity mat.
I guess these are some of the things that come with having animals! I'll take it. :)

eta. I vacuum daily. it helps a lot.
