First Appointment and Prenatals

I was wondering what everyone is doing in terms of prenatal pills while you wait for your first appointment? I'm not scheduled until December 1st and right now im just taking the Target gummies without iron. Anyone get the prescription one's yet to start or is everyone using over the counter one's?

Re: First Appointment and Prenatals

  • I actually got prescription ones from my dr starting in the spring. He wanted me on them a few months before we started TTC. I think you definitely want to be on them once you know since your sprout is trying to grown in there!

  • I have only ever taken OTC ones starting 3 mos before we conceived DS. I never stopped taking them since I BF'd him until a few weeks ago. I may ask for a script this time around if it will be cheaper.

  • I'm just taking gummies right now.  I know I'll need to switch over to the powdered kind soon.  I couldn't swallow big pills last pregnancy.

  • I'm using One a Day prenatals, but I usually take the Nature Made ones.

I just spoke with my obgyn.  I was scheduled for a yearly on November 4th, but they moved me to the 11th.  They're going to do a small pelvic exam with an ultrasound.

  • I'm taking gummies, not Target brand though. The pills made me extremely nauseous. I was throwing up within 5 minutes of taking them.

My first appointment which will include an ultrasound is 11/15. 3 weeks! Hurry up!!

  • I'm taking the one-a-days.  Same ones I took last time around.  Dr. never even mentioned a prescription option that time.  I take them at night before bed to try and avoid tummy issues with them.
  • I'm taking the one a day nature made prenatals +dha! Been taking them on and off for the past few months but seriously taking them since getting my positive on Saturday! :) still waiting to set up my appointment
  • I am also taking the target ones that I took with my first baby. I have an appointment tomorrow and then we are setting our next appointment to hear the heartbeat I don't know what i would do if I had to wait until December !!

  • I use Rainbow brand one a day prenatal. They are gentle on my stomach and the best I can find. I also took these with my last pg.

For additional dha I take Nordic naturals. Also sensitive on my queezy tummy. You can find both of these ate vitamin shoppe, whole foods or amazon.com

  • I've always taken the adult one a day gummies throughout out my 3 pregnancies.  The chewable prenatals have always made me so sick.

  • I take the one a days. The smaller pill size on the box drew me in lol

  • I'm taking OTC ones.  Last pg I took Neevo DHA and liked them, but our options at the overseas pharmacy are limited.  I'll either stick to the OTC PNVs or see how sick the standard prescriptions ones make me this time.

  • One more for the NatureMade prenatals!

I take Wegmans OTC prenatal vitamins. I've taken them while TTC, during and after each pregnancy. My OB didn't feel that I needed Rx vitamins. My first appointment. Isn't until 11/26, my OB waits until you've missed 2 periods before she has you come in.
  • I'm taking the Similac ones from Walmart. First appt is 11/26.

  • I bet if you call your doctor's office they will write you a script no problem. When I scheduled my first appointment the receptionist asked if I was all set with a prenatal
  • With all 3 of my children I have just done OTC ones.  This one will be the same.  First apt 11/21/13 right around 8 weeks.
