Potty Training, what age is to young?

My daughter will be 1 years old on November 2 and I would like to start potty training her about 15 months old, is that to young?

I am also looking for any advice on the subject of potty training, so if you have some information you would like to share please do.

I think thats to young. She may be able to physically control her bladder but mentally she will not be ready. At that age they will not want to stop playing and will hold it for far to long which is not healthy. Just be patient. She will be potty trained in no time.

My LO is 18 months and will pee for me every time I put him on the potty seat, even if it's only a few drops. He also just did his first poop on the potty seat today. However, he's still perfectly fine with going in his diaper too, so we are not anywhere near him communicating that he wants to go before it happens and I'm not rushing it. It's great that he's got the control of his muscles down there to go on demand, so we're off to a good start! I think you should just read up on the subject and start to look for the signs that he's ready.

Also consider how long you actually want to train. The earlier you start, it is likely the longer it will take. I'd rather change diapers than spend four-six months negotiating with a toddler in pull ps and begging her/him to pee or poop. We did a modified four day approach going cold turkey to underpants with DS when he was about 2.5 and I hope to do something similar with DD when she is clearly ready. At 18 months, she is not ready.

Dd already freaks when she has a dirty diaper so im just waiting until she is able to communicate

Your daughter will let you know when she's ready. Don't really push it before 2.5, because most really have no idea about bladder control before then. Go ahead and start introducing the potty at that age (read books, go potty with mommy, even get a potty), but 15 mo is probably too young to really start pushing it.

There are cases where kids are ready this young, but if she's not showing the signs of readiness then yes she is too young.

LO is 15 months and I usually pick up a book or two at the library for us to read about potty training. She follows me into the potty--I ask her where it is and she takes me to it. I plan to get her a potty for Christmas (at 17months) but that's my only goal for awhile. Just familiarize, PT later.

DD is 22 months old and not ready for potty training. She knows what a potty is and can recognize that mommy and daddy peepee and poopoo in the potty, but she doesn't have the mental ability yet to recognize when she needs to go BEFORE she needs to go. She has her own seats (one fits on the potty and one stands alone) that she knows to sit on, but she doesn't go on them yet. I'm waiting till she can tell me before she goes, so it's a quicker and easier process.

It is so different for every child. My daughter started peeing on the potty at 13 months but we didn't push potty training until she was 18 months. That backfired and we tried again at 20 months and it took all of 3 days and we have been in underwear since. Now at 23 months she is 100% out of diapers and we are not looking back!

Our pedi said not to push it until they're at least 18 months and to not force them to sit or stay in the bathroom as they will create a negative mindset with the toilet. Makes sense. We used M&Ms as a reward, and it worked like a charm. Obviously now she doesn't get the candy, but for the first few weeks it helped a lot getting her to go sit in the midst of her playtime.
