nap training

Anyone do this??  DD usually naps well but I always put her to sleep by walking or nursing.  I want to be able to put her down awake and let her fall asleep. Also traveling soon for the holidays and thought it would be easier if she fell asleep on her own.  Experiences???

Re: nap training

  • I agree with PP.  We used the Ferber method (gradual cry it out) for training.  Night training was a breeze.  Nap training was a nightmare.  I really wanted her to be on a schedule but once I gave up and just listened to her cues (usually rubbing her eyes), things were a little smoother.  I also had to put black out curtains in her room.  Good luck!

  • We used Ferber as well, but I've found that it's really important to find the right "window" when you put them down. For example, our LO recently started having a really difficult afternoon nap - when I adjusted his wake time he started going down again without issue. All that to say - make sure when you do nap train that your kiddo is tired enough, but not crazy overtired. I also highly recommend Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Helped us a lot!
