Formula Samples/Donation

Alright...I'm not sure how I got on a list for these or what...but I now have 3 boxes of formula samples; one from Enfamil and the other 2 from Similac. Definitely hanging on to them just in case I'm physically unable to breastfeed for some reason, but there's got to be a place where I can donate all this goodness when the time comes, right? I mean, I've got like 6 standard sized cans of formula (different varieties), two sets of pre-made formula bottles for breastfeeding supplementation, and a 4 pack of like..."on the go" formula pouches (like Crystal Light...but formula). This has got to be a good amount of money worth of formula, am I right? Should I keep it all or consider donating it in several months? Anyone else get some awesome samples in the mail (formula or otherwise)?

Re: Formula Samples/Donation

  • I got a bunch of samples but I'm formula feeding so I'll put them to good use. The local pregnancy resource center takes donations of them to help mom's in need.

  • Actually, I think when I signed up on TB, they asked if their sponsors could send me samples. That's where I figured they were all coming from.
  • Donate them to your local food bank or women's shelter if you have no use for them.

  • Definitely hold on to them until you're comfortable, and once you're comfortable with your supply find a local joint to take them.

The local pregnancy center will take my cans of formula.  I spoke to a volunteer there when this came about for discussion a few weeks ago.  :)

  • All I've gotten are 6 packs of mini Pepsi cans in the mail.
    YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!

Also @alexisjo88 that's what I figured, too. Either The Bump or Motherhood or Babies R Us. This is easily like $100-$150 worth of formula I'm sitting on.

Just want to make sure it can go to use if I don't use it. Otherwise, I hate feeling wasteful!

  • I would keep it until you know you won't be using it and then donate it.  Just be sure to check the expiration date.  I have received a few canisters and donated them to Goodwill - who is a collector for my local food bank.

  • As long as breast feeding goes off without a hitch I'll be donating it to a woman's shelter or food pantry. The church where the LLL meetings are held by me also takes donations.

  • I'm doing like other PPs and holding on to mine for now to make sure that BF goes ok. Then I will be donating mine to a shelter or food bank.

  • I ended up with 3 free cans last time around and I saved them just in case. When DD1 started sleeping through the night at 9 months, my supply dropped and I couldn't pump enough. I kept pumping at work and bf'ing when at home, but those 3 cans filled in the gap. I never had to buy any additional formula. And I kept bf'ing DD until 14 mos.

  • I feel like I'm the only person not getting samples! I am hoping to breastfeed but it would be nice to have something as a back up.
  • Last time around, I ended up donating samples to a crisis pregnancy center after I ended up with a freezer full of milk.  I haven't gotten nearly as many samples this time around.  I'm pretty sure I got signed up for lists at Motherhood.

I wasn't getting any either and I'm hoping to bf but just in case I went online to enfamil and similac's websites and signed up and they each sent me samples pretty quickly.
