I had a free ultrasound done at a local pregnancy clinic at about 8wks 5days  and the we saw 2 separete sacs but just one baby. The nurse said she can't say weather it's twins or not, because it's not her specialty and that my doc would have to take a closer look. I am now almost 15wks and have my first apt on friday. Has anyone had this and ended up having twins? Just curious to see:-) My sister has twins and my mom has twin sisters, so they run in the family. Twins would be pretty awesome!

  • Yeah I saw both my guys clearly at my 8w 6d u/s- even on the crappy u/s that my OB's office had. Did the nurse tell you that you were 8wks? was this u/s abdominal or trans vaginal?  That early on it really should be transvaginal.

  • My aunts are fraternal for sure, but I think my sister's twins are identical. Thanks for your input!
  • I had a normal ultrasound, and I had just emptied my bladder for the pregnancy test. But she did not have a hard time locating that one baby. But yea it was a crappy machine.

I haven't had experience with it, my OB has a fairly new looking, but small machine, but was able to find two fetal poles at 7w3d, and see their hearts beating.  It was transvaginal, too. Keep us posted!  I will cross my fingers for you on Friday!!!

    EDIT: got the date wrong

  • Something like your situation happened to me but a bit earlier. At 5.5 weeks we saw the twins and returned the following week at 6.5. Baby A was measuring right on but baby b was non- existent, with no heartbeat, and looked like an empty sac. I returned the following week after some heavy bleeding and baby b was now present with a strong heartbeat and eventually made up the week difference during the pregnancy. I do agree with others that at 8.5 weeks that doesn't look too good but is possible you are off on your dates? What was the other baby measuring? I wish you all the best.
