Is your baby walking?

I'm not overly concerned about this, but I am curious to know if your little ones are walking? My son cruises along all of our furniture and can stand independently for a couple of seconds but hasn't gotten the courage to take steps. It seems like every baby around us in his age range - give or take a couple months - is walking around. Our pedi says it's nothing to worry about.

@danabsd He's tough to keep up with already, so I'm certainly enjoying it :) Thanks for the feedback!
  • @tonir319 Look at the thighs on your little guy! He's way too cute :) Thanks for responding!

Thanks! Haha I do think the thighs keep him back a little from walking ;)

  • Mine is, but there are a ton of S13 cuties who are not.  I know a ton of kiddos who did not until 18, 20, 25 months.  Now that they are walking, you would never know they took their time getting to their first steps.  ;)

  • Just started walking last Friday at 12.5 months.  Came out of nowhere- he hadn't previously even stood up by himself before that day.  It was like he took a nap, the neurons connected and he started walking.  Totally weird.

So funny! Maybe he was secretly practicing and decided it was time to bust out his moves ;)

Makes sense @tinyhumantoe Thanks for the reassurance!
  • Yes my LO is walking
  • Nope. We're still happily cruising & crawling over here.

  • Reid started walking at 10 months, but my first 2 were 12 or 13 months old when they started.  Every kid is different!

  • Yes, DD started walking shortly after she turned 1. I thought she would walk earlier b/c DS walked at 10 months, but she was on her own schedule!

I think the main importance is that your LO is bearing weight on his legs. It sounds like your LO is very close to walking based on what you described he's doing now.

  • DD took her first steps between DH and me the week of her first birthday... Now a month later she'll still only take steps between DH and me, or from one of us to a very close piece of furniture.  She's much more steady with those steps, but she doesn't seem to have the confidence to try walking without a person there who could catch her.
  • Nope no walking here. Cruising furniture and sometimes she let's go for a second or two, but that's it!

That's how science works, right? I have no idea.

  • Nope not yet. She will only stand holding onto something too and no cruising yet. My kid is lazy!

  • He is, he started walking a week before he turned one. But my nephew didn't walk until he was around 15 months. Every baby is different. Try not to worry!

  • Nope. B can take a few steps, but either has no confidence,or just finds crawling easier.
L is still working on learning to stand unassisted.
  • No. The 14.5 month old is not walking. I'm not worried. Our oldest took 15 months, and the second one took 16.5 months.

  • For those that have kiddos that aren't walking yet, do you have any "walk-behind" toys?  I definitely don't think it's anything to worry about if they aren't walking at this age, I just know that both my kids loved those toys when they were 1st starting out walking! (they both started just shy of their 1st birthdays)

  • Tons of push toys...nothing interests dd though!

  • DD started walking around 11 months.  She didn't really start taking off (more than a couple steps at a time) until she was around 1.  But I did find that she didn't use her push walker when she was in the beginning stages of walking because it went to fast for her.  Now that she's walking pretty well, she uses that walker all the time now, even though she doesn't need it. She just likes to do laps with it.

  • No. DD started walking at 14.5 months and DS has always been slower with the motor skills. I don't expect him to really start walking around for a few months.
