Halloween Q

This year is BM's year for Halloween.  Since it lands on Thursday (DH's day), BM will be picking up K from us at 5pm, and then we will be picking her up from BM at 8 pm.  We did not purchase a Halloween costume for K this year.  Last year when it was our turn for Halloween, we purchased a costume and made sure she wore it when BM picked her up from us at 8pm so that if they were going to Trick-or-Treat in Gma's neighborhood K would be dressed.  

We know that BM will have her in regular clothes when we pick K up Thursday and will not allow her to wear the costume to our house.  We were going to take the kids to Trick-or-Treat in our friends' neighborhood after we pick up K (not far from Gma's) so that they can see the kids and their costumes (DD, K and PJ).

Do we really have to buy K another costume for her to wear for an hour?  The costume from last year doesn't fit, so that isn't really an option.  But I just can't justify spending a bunch of money on a costume she'll wear for an hour and then won't fit next year.  Thoughts?

    I don't think I'd buy another costume. I think either J's idea of a mask or maybe a cool wig, and then use some clothes/makeup from around the house.

    I definitely would not et her a new outfit for an hour. They have super cheap (like $3) witches hats and fairy wings at Target. Make her wear all black and pick up one of those. You can always put some makeup on her and she will look dressed up.

    Really, am I the only one in the world who still tries to get the kids to bed on time on Halloween? Normal bedtime is 8:30. They might be up til 9 or 9:30 on Halloween. So next year when SD comes back from BM at 8 or so, it will be time for showers and bed. We will not be trick or treating after she gets home.

    Granted the 30min one way drive kind of makes it hard to. Each party success to pick up, so would have to leave at 7:30 to PU at 8 and then not get back til 8:30 or so. That means if DH is working, I will have to cut DS's trick or treating short.

    Everyone I talk to IRL think we're weird for looking at it this way too. Sorry. If there is school the next day, I'm not dealing with kids that have been up all hours the night before.

    The girls are always in bed between 8:30-9:00.  Gma lives about 5 minutes from us, and our friends are about 5 minutes from Gma.  We are only going to their house to see costumes and so everyone can say "hi", then we will be home by 8:45, and they'll be in bed by 9:00.

    I completely agree.  DH wanted Halloween to be from after school and then drop off at school the next morning.  BM wouldn't budge, and this was all she would agree to.

    If it were me, I'd probably just have her wear a Halloween shirt or something and not even do a costume, especially since it's just to stop in and say hello.  I'm sure everyone would understand that she was with her mom this year for Halloween so that's why she doesn't have a costume.  If you guys were full on trick or treating, then I'd go with something more, but not just for a quick visit.

    This. If you guys are just visiting and not actually TOTing, then K doesn't need a new costume, that's just silly. If you will be TOTing then have her wear a black shirt, black skirt, and a witches hat. Or fairy wings with a tutu and coordinating shirt. Something really simple. Like Andrea said, the Target dollar section has lots of cheap Halloween stuff right now.

    My SD is off on Halloween and the next day (she is in Catholic school), so bedtime is not an issue for us.
