Another formula question

So after LO turns 6 months I'm going to start replacing a few feedings with formula. She's been EBF except for the day she came home from the hospital she had 1 bottle and 1 other time about a month ago when I was gone and didn't have any frozen BM and DH had to feed her. Those 2 times she had similac advanced, and appeared to have no reactions.

My question is, is it okay to switch brands? The reason is, I have a bunch of enfamil samples, and am considering using those to see if she will take it. A third option is to give away those enfamil samples and try out a cheaper brand like the target brand to see if she'll take it. I called the pedi's office and they weren't much help, just said yep those brands are fine and watch for fussiness. What do you think?

Re: Another formula question

  • Honestly if she had no reactions to similac, I wouldn't switch. But if your trying to save money, maybe try an off brand of similac?

  • I don't see why not? Each baby reacts differently to the different formula brands, so if you do switch to a different brand, I'd just keep an eye on her to see if she reacts badly. Sometimes they even react differently to the same brand, just a different formulation, and sometimes they can start to have a reaction even after they've been on a certain brand/formulation for a while. I know for S, she started on Enfamil Infant, and we had to switch her to the Gentlease formulation about a month in.

  • Originally my pediatrician told me to get whatever was on sale. She said that they are all about the same. That said we did end up having to switch brands a few times because of constipation and other issues.
