Pregnant Belly Button (may be super dumb) question...

Today is the first time my belly button seemed to be doing something weird. Its very deep and so far did not seem to be turning inside out or flattening, but now, I am not so sure.

When your belly button DOES go from innie to outtie, do you feel something happen? If so, what? Or do you just realize one day "OMGZ look what happened!"

Re: Pregnant Belly Button (may be super dumb) question...

  • Some people's belly button never change. Mine always goes flat but doesn't pop out. Mine was completely flat at 17 weeks.
  • Loading the player...
  • With my dd it never became an outtie it just expanded and flattened and I just noticed it one day :)
  • Mine became an outie...didn't feel it happen....it's still sort of an outie....like it never went completely back....though at least it's not obvious when I'm wearing fitted shirts anymore :-P

  • :S Yikes!

OK well good to know there wont be some strange discomfort involved when it finally goes flat or out!

(I have a real weirdness with my belly button, and B has been kicking me in it for weeks, and now this!!)

My belly button freaked me out. My innie slowly flattened out and started turning into an outtie. It felt so weird and drove me crazy when my clothes or I would accidentally touch it. My little girl had her foot stuck on the inside of it and frequently brushed it or worse yet - pushed on it. Ugh. Couldn't even look at it. I'm 10 days post partem and it is back to being an innie.

  • My belly button never popped out with DD but it went flat. This time I noticed it was getting shallow at about 16 weeks. At this point it is full on outie and I told DH I think it might be growing like Pinocchio's nose. I hate it.

Our maternity photographer it editing out my belly button in our maternity photos.

  • Mine went flat- and it HURT.   It was so painful around it- that was the one complaint I always had from about 20w until I delivered at 34w
  • Mine just slowly got flatter & flatter. It never poked out, but maybe with twins, they will push it out!

  • Mine finally completely popped and don't like when I rub my belly and can feel it sticking out. There was never a 'pop' feeling, it just gradually grew out. It grosses me out

Don't be crossed out, but I grew so fast one week- my belly button stretched so far it SPLIT!
I went to my Dr and he genuinely laughed at me, because he's never seen anything like it.

Luckily, I haven't grown so fast so quick again and my poor little button has recovered

    OMG!! @amylou333!

OMG is right! Was that painful??

As of right now mine is flat and seems to be on the verge of popping out with the next growth spurt. I do feel some sensitivity in the area around my belly button.

@sunkiss674 @tootsscott HAHAHAHA I know, right? Grose. It was sore but it didn't hurt too much. Don't worry though ladies, neither my Dr or midwife have seen it before- so I think the rest of you are safe!
Holy Crap!! I'm not grossed out, but you should have seen the look of horror on my face when I read that.

  • I made it to 37w2d with 14lbs of baby in my belly and mine never popped out. It slowly got more and more shallow and the upper part of my belly created sort of an eyelid type of thing over the top half of it. When I would lay down the eyelid phenomenon would go away, so that was pretty much only when I was sitting or standing. And as my belly grew and the belly button got shallower, it got sore and itchy right around it. Only for a day or two at a time as I grew but it definitely wasn't comfortable.

  • My belly button used to be a very deep innie but it popped to a complete outie virtually overnight well before 20 weeks. You can see it through everything that I wear.
    BFP #1 on 12/15/11 but missed m/c with d&c on 2/1/12.
BFP #2 on 5/1/13 = boy/girl TWINS with EDD of 1/3/14 but expected no later than 12/20/13.
  • Figured I would update: as of today, it is a half innie, half outtie - one side is now sticking out while there is still some innie on the other side - but very shallow!
