Finger sucker

So, Evie never took to a pacifier. She did the finger sucking thing for the first two months or so, maybe three months, but after that her mouth was mainly just used for jabbering.

The past two weeks she's been sucking on both her index fingers (not a the same time, just interchangeably) to the degree that they are red and puffy, almost blistered looking. Is this...okay? Will they toughen up, so to speak, or should I be doing something to discourage this? Anyone else have a chronic finger sucker?

(oh, and we decided to go with hockey player for Halloween because we already had the stuff, and husband and I can wear our jerseys too.)

DD did this to the point she broke the skin on her poor fingers! We had to put polysporin & socks on her hands at night :( it was sad. She hated it! She was 6 months or so. Now she doesn't do it. But she did start taking a nuk paci at night. Have you tried different kinds of pacifiers? Edit- I don't think it's bad to do. DDs pedi didn't seem too concerned by it when she was doing it. I don't mind her using the paci at night either. I think it helps with her teething too. Soothes her.
