Anyone's DD (or DS) ever have a yeast infection?

DD has what I thought was a diaper rash but after almost a week and no response to rash cream, I'm thinking it's a yeast infection. I know they can be common when on antibiotic but she hasn't been on any.

It looks like little red zits but no discharge or anything.

Anyone have any knowledge about little one's and yeast infections? Someone told me to try a cream nystain (sp!?) something... Obviously I'll ask dr first but just wondering how anyone else has treated this. It doesn't seem to bother her much but I certainly want it cleared up. Waiting back on call from doctor... Just wondering what ye wise parenting says.

DD used to get that all the time. You could try using Lotrimin to get rid of it, and letting her air out a few times a day.

ETA: You can also use Monistat.

  • LO had very bad rashes that were a combo of bacterial and yeast infections. What you described does sound like a yeast infection. DD's pedi prescribed nystatin cream and then nystatin oral suspension w/cream. At home we have discovered if we use lotrimin we can often times avoid going to the doc.

  • I second the Lotrimin, DS had them a couple times, Lotrimin cleared it right up.

  • We went to a dermatologist after DS had a rash that wouldn't go away. They recommended Lotrimin cream and it went away with in a couple days. I also used cornstarch over it. GL!
  • +2 to the Lotrimin. Works every time. And if we're having rash AND yeast, I'll put a layer of Lotrmin and then a nice thick layer of Desitin over it.

um... is lotrimin just an over the counter cream? I feel like I've heard of it but that it was for athlete's foot or something

    edited: word because gross.
LOL, thanks for no one calling out my "yum"

    OK thanks ladies!
  • DD is getting over one- she's on prescription diaper cream- poor girl. Apparently a cold can make them worse and harder to get over.

Yup, over the counter, and yes, for athlete's foot, jock itch, etc; I just couldn't bring myself to buy vag cream for my little boy (I think Monistat works the same).

Yep, it's for jock itch, because that's exactly what jock itch and athletes food, etc are, yeast infections, just on different parts of the body.
