So I work full time and just found out I was pregnant with # 2. With my first I was in a position where I could bring him to work once he was born so there was no concern with "when to tell" my boss. Now I work for a small company and my lo goes to a great educational daycare. I know my legal rights, since my job doesn't offer benefits or any kind of paid maternity leave. But when do I actually TELL them I'm pregnant. At first I was thinking wait, wait, wait. We're in a slow season and baby-to-be isn't due until the start of our "summer slump" (we're super busy in the spring). Things pick up in February and get rather hectic for about 5 months. At first I was thinking, right before the busy season starts. But now, honestly, I'm not even sure I will be able to hide my morning sickness. Especially since with my first I had a week or two of horrible vomiting. (I actually worked on my laptop in the bathroom one day...)
So the question is: When do you tell your work you're pregnant?
Re: When to tell work...?
If I had had horrible morning sickness, I would have had trouble hiding it, and I would have told earlier. But I think there is an advantage to waiting to tell coworkers (and non-close friends).
In the end, the two coworkers I work with the most suspected, I think because I stopped drinking diet soda all day long!
With both of my pregnancies I waited as long as possible. I just told my boss about this PG yesterday, when my one friend at work who knew already said "you really need to say something about your PG." Because it is definitely obvious.
I think it's a personal decision though - I can understand why some people tell sooner if they are very sick or have a lot of appointments, etc.
