C-sections

If you've had 3 or more c/s....

This will be my 3rd c/s. Someone on my BMB just mentioned that she heard that once your on your 3rd or more c/s that they do a vertical incision. My first two were in the same spot, horizontal across the bikini line. I was wondering if anyone else had heard this or if you could tell me your experience if you have had 3 or more c/s.

Thanks!

Re: If you've had 3 or more c/s....

  • huh? that's new to me and I worked in L/D for over 2 years.
Yeah...I thought is sounded odd.  I don't see why a different incision would be necessary, if anything I would think that would be more problematic.  Thanks :)

  • I just had my 3rd CS in Aug and they did a horizontal in the same place. They did have to lengthen it due to some other circumstances(they had to repair a hernia and move my bladder as it had gotten moved).
  • I am having a third in 4 weeks or less and my doctor never mentioned this.
  • That makes no sense and is obviously uninformed. Your incision will be the same. I am having my fourth in 8 weeks.

  • I just had my third c/s about two weeks ago and it was the same incision line as my previous two c/s.

  • Just had my third. He went over the same horizontal incision
  • I had a verticle incision with my first emergency csect and because it increases the chances of a uterine rupture in future pregnancies I didn't have an option to vbac. My scheduled csect with #2 was a horizontal incision and this csect will be horizontal as well. I have been told that verticle incisions are avoided as much as possible. My OB also advised us that since I had the verticle incision we should have no more than three kids as we would really start putting stress on my uterus with any more than that. We had planned on three any way so I will have my tubes tied during this csect.

  • I had my 3rd section in July and the doc went over the same horizontal cut. The section took a smidge longer due to scar tissue.
  • I'm having my 3rd c section in 8 weeks, my doctor is doing the same horizontal incision and when I talked to him about "the limit of CS's" he told me he didn't see a problem with me having 1 or 2 more C/S's in the future.
  • I just had my third and it was not vertical. I had a lot of scar tissue and was hard to close up.
  • I have had 3 sections already.  This is completely untrue.  I've even had complications and they still did not do a vertical.

  • Just had my third....horizontal all the way!
  • I just had #3. She went on on the old horizontal one but opened my uterus vertically since I had a lot of scar tissue. I was getting my tubes tied anyway so future pg didn't matter
