We are supposed to get our car serviced every 15,000 miles. The last time we did was at 60k miles and it cost us $600. I know we need an oil change and tires rotated but how important is it to get all the other stuff they do? It seems like a lot every 15k. Just curious what others do

We only take it into the shop every 20,000 kms, but we do routine oil changes (either ourselves or at superlube if we are lazy) every 5000 kms. When we go to superlube they check our filters and fluids and whatnot and if something needs replaced, we usually go out and buy the part ourselves and replace it ourselves. Every oil change is about $75 at superlube, but it's only every 4/5 months. It's about $20 to buy the stuff and do it ourselves.
Tires are rotated and changed every May/October when we switch from summers to winters and vise versa. We just took our SUV in for a tune up, we've had it for just over 20,000 kms now, and we knew we needed new brakes, so that's getting done now too, along with some other stuff we can't do on our own.

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
Yes, my DH likes to change the oil and do all that himself, but it never seems to turn out well. I just take it in and let the experts do it. Whatever they say needs done (within reason), I just pay for it. It's never been over maybe $60 though except when I actually needed 4 new tires (eep.)
