OK, I couldn't make this shit up even if I tried. We hired a part time receptionist in our office back in January. I work for my family so I'm with my Dad, Mom and brother all of the time. My brother and I marvel at some of the things that she still doesn't know how to do (close up the office at the end of the day, save a PDF to her desktop, etc). Granted she's 70, but she's been here for 10 months with plenty of training!
So I just got an email from my brother as I am working at the other office today. She has been having issues with her email; not receiving confirmations for payments and things like that. Our domain name as a - in it, so I thought maybe she was using _ or / instead. But I figured it was her entry error that was causing the problem, just couldn't prove it. She finally found out today that her email address is her first name and last name, not just the first initial and last name as she's been using for the last 10 months!! AAHHHHH!!!! There is a reason I told my parents to hire someone younger who had more computer experience...this is one of them!!! They should be very concerned that this is one of the employees that is going to help cover the office for the 3 months that I'm out!!! HAHAHAHA!! I'm still laughing!!!!

Wow - gotta say, while not all people at that age are computer illiterate, I'd probably assume the reality is that most are. I'm surprised she would have been hired for such a position with those responsibilities.
I can deal with people making mistakes, but the worst are those who refuse to admit them! I have a co worker who is in his mid-twenties & actually went to a technical school for networking. So he has an IT education, so on paper he seemed to be a good fit. Once he started he seemed to have the same personality. Always blaming someone else even though he has been trained on how to do things like 10 times, & we even have written out, step by step instructions on how to do practically everything. It irks the shit out me that he cannot just say "ok my bad" or admit simple mistakes he makes. It is always someone else's fault he messed up.
They recently brought on 2 temps to cover for my co-worker & my maternity leaves. (She started her's last week.) These 2 guys are also supposedly good on paper. I'm just praying they are not the same cicumstance. Luckily the person covering my duties will actually be an internal person & the temp they got is to actually cover HER duties.. but I know they are hoping to make these 2 guys temp to hire if they can get it approved. We'll see!

@jen4033, I honestly told them not to hire her. She's worked in an insurance office for years, but our office is incredibly technologically advanced. I've even heard our company reps comment about how new age we are as far as our agency management system goes. I blame no one except the bosses aka my parents! I told my Dad that he really needs to take the reigns next time and get someone more appropriate for the position. Our average office age is about 52 with all but two of the employees being less than 35, everyone else is 55+. They really need a 35-40 year old who KNOWS computers!!

@juliasmama2010 - hopefully her mistakes aren't causing more work for others or leading to any loss in revenue! Hopefully you guys can find a way to make it work, or- sadly how to let her go gently if things cannot be overcome.
