Another stupid question (charting)

Is the temp dip the day OF ovulation or does it SIGNAL it is upcoming?

So like your temp dips and your actually O day is one of the first days of raised temp?

Or your temp dips and that is O day?

I apologize this is only my second month charting. I could google this but I'm afraid I would get conflicting answers and IMO you ladies are the real experts :)

November 2013 - Benched, waiting for first post-loss AF.
No longer benched per New RE/OB!
Jan. 15 2014 - BFP. HCG 3900 - Ectopic :( 
Jan. 16 2014 Left tube removed and D&C
March 2, 2014 First AF

    Sometimes my temp dips but other times its just low and the day after O is when it spikes everytime but waiting for a spike will mean you missed O. What's your CM doing? Do you OPK?

    It's the day of the dip, but like snowflake said ^ you won't really know for sure until you get the rise the following day. You can have a dip, and then another dip the following day- but if you did an OPK and got a + then you can pretty much count on that dip being your O.

    Can be either. I think this month I ovulated on the day of my dip but prior to ds I always saw a dip 2 to 3 days before O. I agree that you just have to wait it out for the 3 day temp rise to know for sure

    Estrogen surges right before the egg is released which causes your temperature to dip, so usually the morning you get the low temp you will ovulate that afternoon (which the majority of women ovulate during the day and not at night).  You'll notice the next day the temp will rebound and spike, indicating you've already ovulated.

    PPs all gave good answers! It kind of varies with me. Once you some more cycles under your belt (hopefully not too many!) you'll be able to look at your charts and see if there is a pattern.


    BFP #1 ended in MMC. Discovered Oct 2005 @10w5d, baby stopped growing around 6w. D&C.
    BFP#2 Nov 2005. Baby's heart stopped @ 8w3d. D&C Jan 2006. Trisomy 18
    BFP#3 Nov 2006. My "miracle baby" DD born 7/25/07
    BFP #4 11/6/12. EDD 7/16/13~my birthday! No sac found @ 5w1d, betas not increasing. Natural m/c started 11/20/12.

    BFP#5 11/9/13.  EDD 7/21/14  Our beautiful rainbow born on his due date!!
