Scary

So we put the twins down last night and DS finally falls asleep at 10pm. SO and I jump in the bed by 11 excited to get some good sleep when at 12:15 someone is banging in the door and shinning a light in out windows. I said "who the hell is banging on the door like the police?" She looked out the window and said it was the police. Evidentially some Ahole decided to kick in my garage door and attempt to steel my older daughters pink bike (that we got from a garage sale for $20) and my snowblower. The police caught him and recovered my belongings but seriously?! Now I have to buy a new door! I also had to wait up till 3am for the evidence tech to come out and take photos and lift fingerprints. Good ol' Chicago. Ok random rant done. Although I did read the Springs1 drama while I waited...one flew over the cookos nest with that one!

  • South side. Ashburn area (the good part I thought)
The deductible on insurance is probably more than the door. Going to look into it today tho when i fully wake up.
  • Soooo scary!!! I wonder if insurance will cover that? Glad you're all ok!

  • What the heck! Glad everyone is ok :)

  • Yikes, glad everyone is ok... Sorry about you door.

You know what I will never understand... why people (who aren't toddlers or young children) believe that they are entitled to what you have.  Like why people seriously think that because you have something, they have the right to take it because you know they are alive so they totes deserve it.

Sorry you are dealing with this.

Thanks everyone. Surprisingly the babies stayed asleep! The banging door, my yapping yorkie and the house alarm beeping until we shut it off! They slept till 5 and 5:50!!

because it didn't fucking snow enough for me to build my own
  • Wow! At least they are doing fingerprints. When my in-laws house got broken into (and everything stolen) the police did not try to get prints. I hate hate hate theifs. Good thing they didn't have the nerve to go in your house. Is it a detached garage?
    image
  • Yes detached garage. I have an alarm system in the house and a gun so I hope they never try that! Insurance says its covered with a $500 deductible but I would lose my 15% discount for being claim free. I've never filed a claim in 10 years...I feel robbed by the insurance company instead! Lol
Needles to say we are buying motion lights, replacing the door, putting up beware of dog signs (we do have a dog) and locking the back gate with a chain and padlock.
FYI officer said last night that criminals are breaking into overhead garage doors by sticking a hanger in the top and pulling the quick release. He suggested to put wire where the quick release spring is so it doesn't release (use the wire like a twist tie)
  • I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. It's such a crappy feeling of violation when your things have been stolen.....my car was broken into a couple of years ago and I hated the feeling someone had been through my things right in my carport while we slept.....

  • It was kinda scary and I know what you mean having someone in your stuff right on your property. I did have a nightmare once everything settled about the situation but now I'm more angry than scared. Just want to make things more difficult in case this happens again.
