I think my kid gave himself an infection

from shoving random crap up his nose.

We were just at the pedi's on Wednesday where he had four wads of paper napkin and a tiny rock removed from his nose. He woke up with a fever and headache today with no other symptoms, other than rubbing his nose all day. He sneezed out TWO foreign particles at dinner. One of them looks a little like meat, and the other was a crayon.

WTF

I think we'll be making a trip to the ENT tomorrow. I'll be calling his doctor first thing in the morning if he still has a fever.

We considered it. He's a challenging child and we've been to the ER a lot for injuries and illnesses in his little life. We've learned that unless he's super distressed or it's actually life threatening, it can wait until morning. This is not the first (or probably last) time he's had stuff in his nose, so we're not terribly concerned about it - enough to interrupt his sleep and take him to the germy ER, anyway.

I'm keeping an eye on the fever and pain through the night and if he gets much worse, we'll go in. But for now, he's resting comfortably without meds, so I figured he's okay.

Of course, now I'm second guessing myself. :-)

  • My kid put macaroni and rice in this nose this week. Apparently it's a fun place to store food. I hope your ds feels better soon!
