Can I throw out a PR question?

Two car families, do you have two car seats for the kiddo? We just installed our new Evenflo triumph, and it's a bit of a pain to move from one car to the other. It's not like the infant seat we had, which was a breeze to move from car to car.

Are we better off saving the money and just switching it out all the time or should we invest in another seat for our other car? Thoughts?

We have two convertible car seats, same car seat in each car (Britax).

  • I was thinking it would be easier on us to get another one, but wanted done opinions. I think we will go get another one probably.

  • Honestly the likelihood that you will get a "good" install if you are constantly moving it is not high.

In our case, DS is in my car 95% of the time. But what would happen if an emergency pops up and the seat is not in the car you need it to be?
This is a really good point. Thanks! I will tell DH this when we discuss.

  • I'm pretty good at installing car seats, but it is still a pain to move them around. It's nice to have an extra seat and avoid the inevitable 'Oh fuck. I have to move the car seat' moments.

  • You guys are awesome! Thanks for the advice!

  • We have two kids and six seats. My husband drops off and I pick up. My mom lives next door and sometimes does pickups... We also travel in her suburban often. It was crazy expensive at first (we have Britac Advocates), but well worth it.
  • We only have one convertible. I do all drop offs and pick ups. Dh had picked up DS twice in three years, and since we keep daycare close to my office/home, he's just swung by and swapped cars with me.

Since his hours are not compatible with daycare hours and he can't leave work for sick toddler.. it has worked for us.

  • We have a convertible in each car.  We have 2 of the Alpha Omega Elite (Safety 1st).  They are just about $100 so not a lot of $$ to get 2.

  • Thanks again all! This is really helpful!

  • We have one set, my car is the family car and my husband's car is for work mostly and short errands. We just switch off cats as necessary, but I guess in case of an emergency we might be sol.

We technically have 7 convertible car seats. We have 2 in each of our cars, plus all 3 sets of grandparents have one as well. 4 Diono Radian RXT's, 2 Graco My Ride 65's (these used to be Rosie's old seats), and 1 Clek Foonf. We really dislike uninstalling seats!

  • We have a set in each car but the comfier ones are with me because they ride in those almost exclusively. DH has less expensive ones in his car.

  • I have (at last count) 4 convertibles for 1 toddler, and 3 boosters for 1 big kid... So we always have a "spare" to stick in DH's car instead of taking mine out of my car - but I don't actually keep one installed in his car. He often has to put his seats down to transport stuff for work.

I have a bunch of seats because I love carseats and can't pick just one, not because I didn't want to switch them around. But I think having one per car is good if you can afford it.
  • We have one, DSs daycare is half a mile from my work. DH works 30 min away so I do all pickups and dropoffs. DS is rarely in DH s car but the Diono Radian is super easy so we move it over. I thought about getting two but DH loves his jeep and he usually volunteers to do the driving when the coworkers go out to lunch. I know he would uninstall it and put it in the back anyway (that's what he did with the infant seat base).

  • There is one seat that I know of that is a convertible but that has a base, so if you need to be a one seat family for whatever reason, it can be done without having to worry about always re-installing.

A friend of mine has it, and she loves it.

We have 2 separate seats, though. A Graco MyRide 65 and a Diono Radian RXT.

I looked into that one, but it's sooooo heavy. Not worth moving from car to car.

  • Yeah, the Graco SmartSeat kind of sucks all around. Orbit also uses a base, but it's got lower limits and is also heavy and bulky. Bases are great for infant seats, not so much for toddler seats *personal opinion only, of course*
  • One convertible in each car. Going to buy one for granny and pap this week.

    First we had eachother.5.27.11
    Then we had you.6.16.12
    Now we have everything.

  • We had two for awhile, but we had the Cosco Scenera for H's car (he only did daycare pick ups) and he outgrew the RFing limit right around when I went back to SAH full time, so we just decided not to replace it and switch the main carseat back and forth as needed, which is less than once every couple months. It works for us because I SAH and my H rarely needs to drive him around, but if I was still working, we'd have two for sure.

  • We got two Graco MySize 70s (DH does DC drop-off and I do pick-up). Target often runs baby sales and we got a really good deal on them. Also if you have a Target card you save 5%.

  • One for each car. It's a pain in the ass to take out and reinstall and I wouldn't want to be doing that on any kind of regular basis.

  • Thanks all! DD still fits in her infant seat, so DH will use that if need be until we can get a new convertible seat for his car next weekend. My car is the one she's in primarily, so it shouldn't be a problem. MIL has one already for her car too.

We'll definitely check to see who has better prices, Target or Babies R Us. We have a BRU gift card, so we'll probably go there.

This is us. Hubby does drop offs Mon/Thurs & I do it on Wed. We just trade cars.

  • We have 4. We have one car, so we have 1 here--and each set of grandparents have one. We also a spare just incase I need to go somewhere with someone that doesn't have a car seat. :)

  • This. We have 2 Britax Roundabouts.
When we had the infant seat, we had a base in both cars and just moved th seat back and forth.

Once we switched to convertibles we bought two because it is too effing annoying o uninstall/reinstall.

So.... Yes..., we have two convertible seats. We have the Britax Pavilion and the Britax Advocate.

  • We went to BRU to see if they had it, but looks like we will have to order online. Thanks again for the advice ladies!

  • We ordered our second seat. Had a 20% off coupon and a gift card, so it was an awesome deal. Thanks again for all the advice!
