Doorway jumper

I'm thinking a doorway jumper or fisher price jumparoo or exersaucer could be a good age-appropriate Christmas gift for LO. I have a feeling there are "You shouldn't use those because..." theories out there. What are your thoughts?
Feeling like a big bloated hormonal whale of a tale. It's awesome.

Re: Doorway jumper

  • The only thing I've heard is that you shouldn't use the baby walkers because it teaches babies to walk on tip toes and actually causes problems with their feet...and because there are the stories of kids falling down stairs in those when parents aren't paying attention.

  • I read a lot online last night about this after the Christmas thread. Some research says jolly jumpers and exercausers are bad if the baby stays in them for long periods and can cause hip dysplasia. Everything in moderation in my opinion anyway....

  • The jumparoo is the only one I'd consider. The exersaucers and doorway jumpers I've read bad things about. Same for the walkers.

    My baby is ONE!!

  • We ordered a jumperoo for her for Christmas. I wouldn't trust a door way jolly jumper though.
I've heard anything that supports the baby's full weight from between the legs can cause hip dysphasia with long term use. That includes some kinds of carriers. Like a pp said, everything in moderation.

  • Yea after Christmas thread I went on a researching mission and have concluded the jumpAroo it is!!

  • We had an exersaucer for the big one. He liked it and it was used in moderation.

I never had any kind of jumpy thing. I'm thinking well need an additional play station this go round and I'll look into other options.

  • I haven't done any research on them, but it is just funny to me that we were put in Johnny Jumpers when we were kids all the time, and we are all fine. Yet now they are said to cause hip issues and all of that. It is just funny how things have changed since we were all kids! But like PPs have said, moderation makes sense.

  • We used a door jolly jumper for DS. I
Would totally use it for LO but we don't have any door frames close to out front room. We also used the excersaucer and he really enjoyed it.
He also turned out perfectly fine. They don't sell the walkers in Canada anymore, too many cases of Childten falling down the stairs.

  • I have a doorway jumper that was given to me, but I have put a jumproo on our wishlist

  • Thanks so much for the info and opinions! Saved me from doing more baby product research. Sounds like the jumparoo is the way to go, which is exciting because I hate things blocking the doorway and they look really cute.

  • I used to be a developmental PT and we would not recommend doorway jumpers due high risk of stress fractures
  • My older two looooved the doorway jumper. We just push it to the side when we're not using it, never bothered me. I prefer it over the stationary jumpers just b/c it's easy to move around and I find the stationary ones with a million play things on top and noises obnoxious. Just my opinion. As pps said, everything in moderation.

  • I'm resurrecting this thread.

We got the jumparoo and LO LOVES it.. the problem is... we have a small house and literally it looks like Fisher Price threw up all over it. We are already tripping over stuff.. the jumparoo being the main culprit. Anyhow, in addition to trying to save space, I'm looking for something to use with LO in the morning in the bathroom while I am getting ready. We had been using the kick n play piano but now that he's rolling all over the place, I think I need something that gets him off of the floor and upright. So.... I'm currently leaning towards the doorway jumper. For those that made their decisions on this.. or those that were up in the air, etc...  how do you feel about your doorway jumper now? Pros and Cons?

note: I know there is a lot of stuff out there causing hip issues... but I plan on only using this for max 15-20 minutes a day so that doesn't worry too much since it will be in moderation as PP had mentioned.

  • I have a doorway jumper and ds loves it. We only have him in it for 10 minutes at a time max. So, I am not concerned about his hips. I just move it to the side of the door when it is not in use.

This isn't a jumper or anything but have you tried putting LO in a high chair with toys on the tray?  I do this a lot in the morning and she looooves it.

We have had both. Second day into LO using the doorway jumper, she ran right into the doorway head first. And that's how THAT got returned to the store

    photo crunchy_zps41233998.gif
  • @kristykay123 we do that in the kitchen/family room... but I'm thinking that I would still like something closer to the bathroom that I can easily move in and out every morning while I get ready... although I suppose I could just slide the chair over in the kitchen.... hmmm.

@roostermemphis yikes. I didnt even think about that... and I don't even question that my son would do the exact same thing... rethinking yet again..

  • We have a doorway jumper and LO loves it! he doesn't come anywhere near flinging himself into the wall. I can't see that happening till he is much older. It works well for us and he can sit in it better than his exersaucer!

  • @hauntedradio I have a bouncer, but he is spastic and can't sit still lol... I might give it another go before I go buying something new... But last time it wasn't enough stimulation for him :-)

Oh see, there is a (removable) toy bar on ours. I add toys on linking rings depending in what he's into. That keeps him pretty occupied!
Yea.. I wish I would've registered for that one lol.. Ours has like a little thing that dangles above it.. I'm gonna try dangling something from it...

  • @nikkid522 We have that same bouncer. It sucks, lol. We got this from diapers.com and DS loves it. Plus, it becomes a toddler chair when they get bigger. https://www.diapers.com/p/tiny-love-gymini-bouncer-53761#

  • @maritza707 I'm so glad you posted that!! It triggered something!! There's a similar one to what you have I saw at BJs!! I will be going there tomorrow!!! Thank you so much!

  • This is what we have now: https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Infant-Toddler-Rocker-Safari/dp/B00A4B34IA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389412943&sr=8-1&keywords=infant+to+toddler+rocker it's good up to 40lb, has a toy bar, kick stand to keep it stationary, two recline settings, vibration... I left the Bright Starts bouncer at my mom's after Christmas but it was definitely our go-to before we got the FP from SIL/BIL.

That's the one at BJs!!! It's a sign!!

  • Get a space saver chair fir the bathroom, you can put toys on the table part.

  • I prefer a jumparoo. Mostly because I don't want that shit blocking any doorways.

If anyone is looking for a recommendation the Fisher Price Rainforest one is awesome.

Yep, this is what we have and D loves it. Our first loved it too.
  • This is the one we have. $25 from Walmart. Bright Starts brand.

The only issue I see with something like this is that once they can sit up, they likely won't want to be restrained in a laying position like this.
  • We have the doorway jumper. Asked for the jumparoo for Christmas and got a doorway jumper instead (way to go MIL). We've used it a few times. It doesn't look comfortable if you ask me. I still would prefer the jumparoo n

  • We have the jumparoo, and have only used it for a week.  Our LO goes nuts in it...however the other day we noticed that one of her ankles kept rolling and she was trying to push off on the side (ouch!).  I'm going to wait until I speak with the pedi in a few weeks.  I want her legs to be stronger first....so more manual exercises with her.
