Yuck!! Diaper pail question

How do you wash out your diaper pail? I have the arm and hammer. It has been great but now that James has more solid poops, it's getting really gross. I was thinking I might wipe it down with bleach or vinegar. Or should I just buy a new one? I took out the full bag today and it's not the bag that smells but the actual pail itself. Thoughts?

Re: Yuck!! Diaper pail question

  • Can you wipe it down and then leave it in the sun for a few hours? The sun should get rid of the smell.

I tried washing ours with comet and super hot water, then let it sit outside to dry overnight. It helped for less than a week and it went right back to being smelly. I even keep a box of baking soda in the bottom of ours. I'm thinking I'll just buy a new one! Ew!
  • I use scrubbing bubbles and it cleans up great!
  • Every time I empty our diaper genie I wipe the inside with a lysol wipe - I figure it kills any germs and I use the lemon scent so it smells fresh.  I 2nd the PP who said let it sit in the sun - that always makes things smell better!
  • We use Lysol wipes
