S/o leftovers

I am always surprised when people say they don't eat leftovers. What do you do with them? Why don't you eat them? We eat all of our leftovers. If they don't go with one of us for a lunch it becomes a schmorgaus board dinner with us each having something different. Iam. Really curious what others do with them if you don't eat them for meals.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

Re: S/o leftovers

  • We will never, ever have them two days in a row for dinner.   If they can't be frozen, H brings them to lunch.  If it can be frozen (pulled pork, pasta sauce, soups, etc) we will freeze and put on the menu for the next time.  So they definitely do get eaten here.  Just not in the same week for two dinners!

We eat them just not usually for dinner. H would rather eat them for lunch the next day then dinner.

Eta: We don't have leftovers often. I have gotten pretty good at fixing the exact amount we will eat. We will eat them for lunch if we have them but it's not that often.

  • I agree with you!  I love leftovers and think it is odd when people are "anti" them.

  • We don't eat them. I am an expert at cooking the exact amount we need or if it is something freezable I will freeze it and serve it in a couple of weeks.
  • DH takes leftovers to work. We don't eat it twice for dinner...exception is probably Thanksgiving.

But why not have the same dinner twice a week? I LOVE leftover nights!!! Yummy home cooked food with none of the effort. I plan for at least 2 or 3 leftover nights a week.
Because that's too boring for me, I guess.  I like a variety :)  They never ever go to waste.  Just never in the same week.  I love to freeze them and have them in a week or two!

  • I a lot of times I like the leftovers better than the original meal. We usually finish up leftovers from a dinner for lunches during the week.
  • I don't care for leftovers, especially for dinner in the same week. I will usually either cook just enough for us, or cook a double or triple batch so I can freeze it. Sometimes,we'll have enough for lunch leftovers for one of us the next day, but not enough for a full dinner.

  • I prefer to freeze them if I have enough for another meal and it's something like soup, pulled pork, etc. Also, we don't have a lot of meals that have leftovers...I make roast chicken, grilled meats and sides a lot. I can make just the amount I need. I'll eat them for lunch though and tonight we're actually eating leftover shrimp, sausage and rice from last week. It was really nice to have it in the fridge since we're all super tired.
  • DH flat out will not eat leftovers.  He just doesn't like them.  I just hate making something and eating it again in a few nights.  I will on occasion.  I try to cook just enough for what we eat.  I always wrap up the leftovers, but it's rare I eat them.  Unless it's Thanksgiving food.  I could eat Thanksgiving food every single day.  I usually make a small version of Thanksgiving dinner once every few months and eat it all week.  Yum.

  • DH eats our leftovers for lunches. Many of the dinners I make just aren't as good left over. Grilled chicken and rice end up really dry left over, grilled fish is overcooked if you reheat it.

If we make soups or stews or things like that we will eat them left over. Usually then we spoon them into 2 cup containers and freeze so we have something similar to cans of soup but healthier and cheaper.  We don't do that very often though because Emma won't eat soup, neither girl will eat stew or chili, so those nights we need an alternate dinner for the kids and I don't want to cook two dinners.

  • I am not a fan of many leftovers, never have been. I try to make just the amount that I know we will eat and if there are leftovers DH takes them to work or I will freeze it for another time.

  • DH is way better about leftovers than I am.  I am pretty good at making what we eat, though surprised how that has grown over the years too.  @auroraloo, there are things we halved like you a couple years ago and now eat the whole damn thing.

I will make batches of soups to freeze half of it but usually DH eats it.
  • We have no problem with leftovers in this house and make extra so we have them. I love them for lunch or dinner the next day. Leftover chicken= grilled chicken salads for lunch the next day. Leftover steak= steak and eggs for breakfast.

  • DH takes most of ours to work the next day, and DS1 has some for lunch too usually. If its leftover meat from say, roast or something, I'll make a stir fry or pasta or some other dish incorporating it. Stuff like pulled pork, spaghetti sauce etc, I freeze if after packing DH's lunch there's still an abundance left.

  • I try to cook just enough, but things like casseroles, soups, stews, chili, etc. always get eaten that week. If not, we definitely freeze, but that's rare. My husband loooooves leftovers.
