I didn't do it at mine, but I've been to many where it was done. I can only speak for myself, but it never struck me as rude or off putting. I'm buying one or the other, anyway. But it's sacrilege over there... :-SS
I read over your other post and I like some of the initial suggestions. I personally would say if you didn't want to wait for the shower (because I'm betting she really needs some of that stuff now that the baby came early!) maybe pick a day that Mom could come and leave LO home/ or is LO still in the hospital? I would recommend taking tons of pictures of the baby and bringing those to pass around instead, then politely inform anyone asking about the real baby that LO couldn't get here because of compromised immune system.
For sure! we talked about maybe doing a slide show! Baby is already home (thankfully) but it does sound like the safest bet! My friend has a large family and it's do this sooner than later, because then all these people will come by her house and want to hold the baby anyways. And she definitely needs a few more things to complete her nursery
