Rectal pressure

STM, 38w4d, scheduled for RCS on the 5th. I started having major rectal pressure last night. It's awful. Every time I stand, I feel like I need to poop out a watermelon. I never experienced any of this with DS1. He never dropped, and I can only assume that's what has happened. Dr didn't note any change on Friday. But I feel totally different now. And my back pain is way worse.

I've had BH since about 33 weeks, so that's nothing new. It just makes me wonder if this sensation means I might actually go into labor this time. Or, maybe it will pass? DH is at the fire station today, and DS1 and I need to go to Target to grab wipes and more Boppy covers. The thought of walking is unbearable right now!

Re: Rectal pressure

  • I'm also in the rectal pressure club this week... had an ultrasound on Friday and baby is head down and prepared for launch. My OB said the fact that he's so low is probably why I'm having the pressure but that it doesn't mean labor is any more or less likely to start soon. I'm a few weeks earlier on in pregnancy though so my situation may be different than yours.

When in doubt it never hurts to call your OB and ask.

  • I had extreme rectal pain when I carried DS.

I went to L&D to get confirmation that it was just the position he was settling into, by 38w I was miserable...and at 40w he was born.

  • I've had it for weeks as well. Along with hemorrhoids. The pressure has increased as I've gotten further along, which according to my midwife is all due to baby's size/positron/lack of room. It sucks, but thankfully only a few more weeks of this at most.

  • Yup I've got that too...I'm always a little nervous to push when going to the bathroom just in case, lol..but I know deep down there would be way more pain if it was actually baby ready to come!
  • Try getting on all 4's and lean forward and seeing if that helps relieve any of the pressure... The position of LO may just be what's causing it. Maybe getting them to switch/move positions will help.

This is the only way I get any relief. It feels so good!
